Re: Ten Useful Things For A Buck

    1. Party favors-I've spend three lunch hours this week going to three different Dollar Stores to get favors for DD's birthday party. It's a Mickey Mouse Clubhouse theme. I found coloring books, tins of dominos and card games, and jump ropes all in the theme. I've gotten things from Dollar Store and Dollar Tree for all of her parties. I'd rather have a few good treats than a bag full of junk! 2. Coloring books. 3. 2/$$1.00 greeting cards (except now I recycle the cardboard that comes in pantyhose by cutting them into rectangles and corner-rounding them, and making to: from: tags out of them!) 4. Kid's clothing I don't get there much because it's on the other side of town. However, there are two in the town I work in, one of each side of town. I should start looking for things there instead of paying too much for it at the grocery store or having to go to Wal-Mart.

I love Dollar Tree also, I like to get some household supplies:

    *paper towels

    *bath tissue

    *aluminum foil

    *fabric softner

    *brillo pads

*laundry soap (1 bottle for $1 will last me all month)

    *dishwashing gloves

    *drain opener

    *cleaners

    *ziploc type bags

We find alot of nice gift items there, especially for the younger cousins. Here are some I've gotten in the past.

Greeting cards 2/$1 (we have large extended family)

Feather boas for the girl cousins' dress up box

Real glass beaded jewelry in great colors

    Little Debbie snacks

Blown glass Christmas ornaments (half price after the holiday, even better)

    Silk covered gift boxes

    Gift bags, tissue,etc.

Expandable washcloths (They look like pellets and expand in water to regular size).

    Mini all metal slinkys

Hardback story picture books (selection really varies but every so often you get some winners)

I got two Rubbermaid containers there yesterday. I also got a box of 18 gallon zip-lock freezer bags which wouldn't zip and hold, and which broke.

Some things are really fine there, a few others, I've learned to buy elsewhere for quality. I do find WalMart's Value brand freezer bags are quite good.

Do I have to limit my list to ten items?

Here's a list of the useful things I've bought recently:-

    • Sturdy plastic buckets
    • Liquid hand soap
    • Magnifying readers for DH
    • An iPod case
    • Assorted plastic containers for storing/ sorting craft supplies
    • Novelty socks
    • Glassware
    • Imperfect paperback novels
    • Tealight candle holders - set of 4 for $1
    • Party favours
    • Reusable water bottles
    • A large reusable shopping tote
    • Pop up hampers for the kids' rooms

I stay away from the food, and certain personal care products - definitely not value for money
