DH is paid weekly and I my checks come on the 1st day of the month and then the 2nd Wed of the month.  I have had a monthly budget for years based on payment dates. It has to be adjusted every now and then but not a lot.

DH is paid in two parts. One part is a housing allowance. That is on the first of the month. It goes in a separate checking account and all house bills are paid from that. His other money is in a weekly check. It is small and usually pays for gas, a meal out ,the out of pocket expenses. I am a contract worker with the state. I receive a billing sheet every two weeks. I will be paid on the Sat after I send it to the state office. I can hold the bill up to 60 days. That is a nice way to save for a big expense if you can survive . That money pays any bills not related to house expense , groceries and savings. That would include gifts, vacations, Dr. bills, health insurance, estimated tax payments to IRS>  Babs

In the past, I would shop and pay bills to cover about a week and a half so that when the next check came, we were not broke, we were not out of food and bills were being paid ahead of the due dates.

This time since he has such large work expenses, I am thinking of using one check to "fund" his work categories and bills for a month and the other for personal expenses for the month.

My husband gets paid weekly. Two of my jobs I get paid monthly; one I get paid weekly (small income). We have learned not to look at the bank balance when I get my monthly checks and get all excited..since that money has to last, well, all month. Our bills could be spread out over the month, but when I get paid with the big checks, I tend to pay off the big bills and then tackle the other stuff as it comes in ( big = mortgage, car loan, credit card; other stuff = gas/elec, phones, cable, food-gas-other variables). We pretty much pay each bill within a few days of it arriving in the mail....this is a fairly new development.....- keeping up with bills, and I love the peace knowing that we are on top of things.

Brandy, I think holding out a check makes sense, then you won't count on money that is already designated.

I get paid on the 8th and 24th, dh gets weekly pay at FedEx, he was paid every two weeks, but unemployment will be every week.

The best budget I had was early in my career when I got paid monthly, I was so organized!  Not these 10 little deposits, just one!  Not  that I'm complaining about any deposit, mind you, just it's easier when you know exactly what's coming in to plan the bills.

I felt rich, by the way, out of college, with enough money to single parent, and buy a house and a car!  And pay my student loans.  As a family of two in small town America, life was good.  If anyone is arguing recession or not, my vote is we are deeper in a recession and burying this country in debt than anyone has courage enough to say.

Not that life is not good and busy now, it was easier then, for me.  Not as textured, but certainly simple.

Does anyone pay bills on a certain number day?  I use my paycheck on the 24th to remind me to send in the mortgage in the next few days.  I use my paycheck on the 8th to remember to send in home equity bill, not due until the 23rd, but to split big bills up.

We get paid bi-weekly. We both are paid on the same Friday and both are direct deposited on our cash card. We use a frontloaded card that allows us to pay our bills online but not have to worry about overdraft charges and what not. I wish I GOT PAID ON THE OPPOSISTE fRIDAY AS HIM BUT THAT IS OKAY- AT LEAST i HAVE A JOB AND AM GETTING PAID.

Dear All, I receive my Social Security benefits direct deposit on the 3rd.  (My Food Stamps come in on the 1st.)  On the weekend before the 3rd, I write out my $327 rent & $600 personal physician checks (entering the SSDIB into the check register).

I check my VISA balance regularly.  When the billing cycle has completed, I go directly to the bank & pay the full balance.

As folks who have read the Food Stamps sub-Forum of Frugal Foods know, I do a major food shopping upon receiving the stamps.  May the L-rd be praised!, I generally have lots left for getting through the month, & have at least $5 left to roll over into the next month.

Enter His gates with thanksgiving, His courts with praise; give thanks to Him, bless His Name. (Psalm 100)

    Yours in thrift, Deb
