paperback swap and the tightwad gazette

Hi, I am fairly new to this forum. It looks like a great place so thanks to everyone for making it that way!

One site I love is www.paperbackswap.com - you send out books you no longer need and receive books you do want. All you pay is the postage on the books you send out. It's a great system and it really works. Books must be in very good condition.

(I don't work for them. However if you sign up and tell them I (book-eater) sent you, I do get a credit for a book. Even if you don't, the site is great - for real!)

The best books I've gotten from there are the immortal The Tightwad Gazette I and II by Amy Dacyczyn. (All it costed me was between $1.50-$2.75 each, to send out some books I've had forever and didn't need.) You can buy The Complete Tightwad Gazette, but don't bother trying to get it on PBS.com because there are over 430 people waiting ahead of you!

I haven't actually seen the Complete Tightwad Gazette. (My library doesn't have it.) It's over 950 pages. I'm sure someone has it and can answer this: isn't it hard to handle such a huge book? I like to keep my TGs lying around where I can pick them up any time and learn something new.

Also, I wonder if anyone knows what Amy is up to lately. She's pretty much disappeared since the books came out.

I love the Tightwad Gazzett! I have read all three. I borrowed them from the library. I bought book # 1 about 5 years ago at Goodwill for less than a dollar (that would make Amy proud) I keep it in my bathroom, my favorite reading room LOL. The bathtub overflowed on it once and DS splashed water on it a few times, the pages have been read and reread more times than I'd care to imagine. The book looks like heck but you would have to pry it from my cold dead fingers to take it. I have'nt heard anything about her in years. I remember seeing her on the Phil Donahue show a long time ago. The closest thing I have ever run across like the TG is the Dollar Stretcher

    Book-eater,

I have volumes one and two and the Complete Gazette, which is about a quarter inch thicker than two volumes together.

If you send your mailing adress to my inbox here, I'd be delighted to send you my Complete edition  for free, no strings. I like the book a lot, but keep it around mostly for nostalgia and would like even more for someone to have it who would really put it to use : )

I have the Complete Tightwad Gazette. It is not difficult to handle. It is the same size as the first and second TG, but just thicker. The paper is not heavy paper, therefore it is light.
