    Food Stamps

I have been lurking about the food stamps thread/forum for a while now.

I've seen the discussion about how many $ in food stamps are given to

    different ones.

I "googled" $21 per week food challenge (I think Deborahmichelle mentioned

this some time back.) and got a website titled

    http://www.frac.org/html/federal_food_programs/programs/fsp.html

Information from that website for a household of 1:

    Monthly Allotments and Deductions, October 1, 2007 to September 30, 2008 -

$162 per month is the maximum $ amount allowed for food stamps in 48 states & DC.

(Hawaii and Alaska are higher in every category.)

    Standard Deductions:  $134 (household 1-2, also 3)

    Maximum Shelter Deductions:  $431

The "Income Eligibility Standards" category for October 1, 2007 thru September 30, 2008 is as follows:

Net Monthly Income Eligibility Standards (100% of Poverty Level):  $851

Gross Monthly Income Eligibility Standards (130% of Poverty Level): $1,107

From information (?) that is on the "front page"  there appears to be a vehicle value

and some other things that are taken into consideration.

Nothing I read indicates that place of residence, i. e., "cost of living" is taken

    into consideration.

This is my first post on this thread/forum.  For some reason this post is

being double spaced...I HOPE it doesn't appear that way on the forum or y'all

    will probably kick me off.

I do not get food stamps, but I believe - from the posts I have read on this

thread - that the group of people here are more nearly people who buy food

like me than on most other forums/threads.

Thank you for letting me post.  And, I HOPE this post doesn't appear

    double-spaced when I post it!

    Babs:

I don't know WHY my post are being double-spaced!!!  They don't double

space on another website where I post.  And, one line DIDN'T double

space when I posted my first msg.  Thanks!

I don't know why your posts are being double spaced, either, but in case you are doing it, don't hit the enter key at the end of a line. Anyway, welcome aboard, glad to have you here, double spaces and all. LOL

Welcome, welcome Ern!  Much of the data that you cite is accurate.  What wasn't made clear on the site that you were looking at is property ownership.  One can get Medicaid &/or Food Stamps if one has a primary residence owned (not a vacation home or rental unit owned), a primary car worth less than:  I forget!, & $2K in cash & "other assets."  Yours in Him, Deb

    Ern,

Welcome to the community! I think I would prefer to see a post double spaced than one with the whole post run together without any breaks between paragraphs.

Hope I get to post this "quick reply"!  I tried NOT hitting the enter button - just using the cursor.  I couldn't get my post to NOT skip the extra line.  Then I thought of what I am doing now...I going until the typing is automatically taken to the next line and now I am only getting the one line.  All I have to do now is REMEMBER to just keep typing and let the ? take me to the next line!!

Deborahmichelle - I knew there were other considerations...I just thought maybe the site might help a little.  For some reason(s), the way a lot of the Federal "help" programs are administered to individuals is keep quiet as to ALL the considerations and are seemingly sometimes administered differently in what appears to be same scenario cases.  This does not set well with me!  I think any Federal, State or local program should be administered as if it were a "glass house" situation.

I always look forward to reading this forum/thread and the Dollar Stretcher.  Have been reading the $ S since about 1997 or 1998 - not too long after I got my computer.

Have a good day everyone!  It's cold here in central TX but not drizzling rain like yesterday!

Dear Ern, I apologize deeply for having made you feel that I was correcting you.  I only wanted to ADD TO what you found on that very helpful site.  And, you are right that for Medicaid in particular, States can obtain "waivers," which allow them to administer the program in a differnet way from other States.  It is just that the assets list that I mentioned is fairly much universal ....

Hi, Deborahmichelle!  --  I didn't think you were correcting me...and I was very glad to see additional information posted!  I just hope everyone that needs some help can get what that assistance!  I think all of us need help sometimes in someways.

I'm super happy that I've found a way to keep my post from double-spacing!!  That's my big thing today!!

I'm gonna read around the site now...just got in from my part-time work.  I am a product demonstrator AT Costco but not FOR Costco.  A different company employs me.

Hope you all had a good day. -- ern
