Deb, I did check it out. I will be showing this to my oldest DS who is studying Hebrew (Ancient) on his own. He is hoping to study Hebrew in the fall with my youngest DD. She is learning Greek now and wants to finish up that class. I will be going back to this and reading more too. Babs

Re: Check out Pat's Post on the Home Schooling thread

Deb, DS is funny. He learns something and then comes over to tell me. He goes in to long explanations and draws pictures. He is becoming a really good teacher. He was only interested in music until about 4 years ago. He started feeling that G'd was leading him to start teaching. Since then , he has become an excellent student. That is what has prompted him to study Hebrew. He has to understand the language, the history, the context of how, why where , when. We are enjoying watching this change in him. I will learn the Hebrew just from listening to him.  I will also say that he is our first born. We brought him to the church when he was just born to dedicate him to G'd. I strongly believe that we are to do that. His first born is a son. He almost died at age 2. It was not an easy thing to experience. But wonderful to see the miracle of G'd for the healing. Now at age 12, we see him maturing in his faith,  It is like watching his Dad again. But isnt that what G'd planned that the generations would praise Him. OK sermon for today....lol Babs

DO you know that Jewish first-born sons ARE consecrated unto G-d?  There is a slpecial ceremony (Pidyon Haben) in which a bit of money is paid to redeem the baby spiritually, from service in the Temple as a priest.  SO, your son who is so interested in Hebrew is indeed specially beloved by the L-rd.  (The ceremony is also performed for 1st-born animals.)  See Exodus 13:1-2, & Numbers 8:18 & 18:15-16.  Yours in Him, Deb

We do a service of dedication for babies. The baby is brought to the altar by the parents. The Father carries the child. The Pastor takes the child, anoints the baby with oil as a symbol of G'd Spirit to be on him. Usually, the scripture of Hannah bringing Samuel to the temple is read. The baby and family are prayed over for G'ds blessings, protection and for the child to grow up to serve the L'rd. Then the baby is given to the Mother as it is her responsibilty to care and teach this child until he is of age. Babs

That's beautiful.  All male Jewish babies are circumscised on their 8th day (the pidyon haben is on the 31st day).  In many congregations, a daughter is named in a ceremony.  THe langauge that we use is that the parents should cause the child to grow up to be versed in Torah, to be wed, & to do good deeds.  Yours in Him, Deb
