    Prices Up - Contents Down

I was shopping in Family Dollar today, and the items that I have been paying $1 for are now $1.09, $1.19, $1.29.  Then I noticed that the $1 box of instant potatoes now has only 13oz. instead of 16oz., the creme drops candy is still $1, but you only get 12oz. instead of 16oz. You can't win.

some times you can find good bargins there guess we need to know the price of things and messure things in weight and oz. kind of a jip but for shampoo hair sprays which is because I have to do my hair cutting myself I just get the cheap shampoo there, usally the cany is a big ripoff thing I just go to the regluar store for that and make a haul home in the rusty dusty dodge of mine if the candy is on sale.....Which it needs to be a really good price then...

same old thing!  reducing contents but keeping the same price. That is why I like Safeway, everything has the breakdown per oz/100gms on the price tag so it makes it easy to compare sizes and get the best deal for the price.

I keep a small calculator in my purse so that I can figure unit price of things.  Like your Safeway store, the local Dillons stores also display unit price - even on the sale items - which is nice for us penny pinchers.

I've always found the small, 16-oz. size of peanut butter (on sale) was always less expensive than the large 28-oz. size on sale.  Buyer beware (and use your calculator).

This has been going on for years.  It wouldn't surprise me if they had to come up with new can sizes just to fit the reduced sizes.  When you make some of your old recipes and it calls for a 16-oz. can of pumpkin in the Pumpkin Bread and you can't remember the last time they WERE 16-oz.....  Canned vegetables, once 16-oz. are now 14.5 oz., which I believe is down from 15.5 oz. a few years ago.

Something I read on a can of Kroger Lite Pears that kinda' surprised me rencently...  Net wt. 15.25 oz. (432g)  - Wt of PEARS - 9.4 oz. (266g).  Look how much money you are paying for "pear juice from concentrate" which most people toss down the drain - YIKES!  If it weren't for the need for canned goods for long-term food storage, I'd probably stick to frozen because it's less when you figure up the cost of the fruit - NOT fruit + juice.

My beef with grocery stores, or any store for that matter, is when they have a big "sale" on an item, which is really the old price anyway and then the next week the regular price has gone up. But, yeah, manufactures are reducing the size of things, I guess to keep prices down, but you still feel cheated.

I noticed the prices at our local Dollar General were up. My shopping list for this store is reduced as the deals are not as good.

So far the Dollar Tree, my near by everything $1 store, still has $1 price tags. I don't buy much food there as their selection is small but I haven't noticed a decrease in sizes.
