I finally have an outdoor space of my own and I want to start growing some vegetables. The problems are, it's a balcony so I'd need to do container gardening, and it doesn't get much direct sunlight except for early in the morning right after sunrise. The rest of the day the light is mostly blocked by a big tree.

Is there anything I can grow in that kind of indirect light, and in a container or hanging planter? I have a topsy-turvy tomato planter but I'm doubting I have enough light for tomatoes.

Beets, carrots, and greens seem like they'll be my best bet because they don't require large containers. I'd be THRILLED if I could grow greens because they get to be pretty expensive with how many I buy from the grocery store!

Green beans can be grown in containers, too.   I do grow lettuce in pots ... they tend to be more like baby greens.

Just a few I found interesting.  I have a little more room than a patio to work with but have been away from gardening for some time...I think that will be changing this year.
