Depending on income guidelines in your state, there are many assistance and welfare programs for low income seniors:

Meals on Wheels, surplus commodities food boxes, ride vouchers for medical appointments, rent subsidies, food assistance, free cell phone, Medicaid supplement to Medicare, heating assistance, cash assistance, food pantries, clothing ministries
