    Re: Food Storage

    Deb,

I am trying to rearrange how things are put in the kitchen cabinets and how I can make better use of some outer spaces we have. I am gathering some ideas on how to best organise it all.

The main thing about handling berries is to keep them unwashed & in the fridge for the day or 2 that they will last, in their original basket.  OR, for long-term storage, put a single layer of wshed berries on a cookie sheet & put it in the freezer for a few hours.  Then pour them into a storage bag or otherwise wrap them to freeze for long-term.  By having used hte cookie sheet pre-freezing, each berry will stay separatezd.

Brandy, I find square boxes all of hte same size for the same type of food -- eg my 1 pint square boxes for everyindividual serving of food that I freeze -- obviously, I wrap the uncooked poultry separately, & keep frozen OJ & veggies, etc in their original wrappers.  Larger square boxes are good for tight spaces like yours for bulk foods.  I have the luxury of canisters & jars because my kitchen is MUCH more roomy than yours, notwithstanding my living in a studio.  Square boxes fit together tightly.  You just need to label them on teh side that you will put facing out.
