Debt consolidation is a great option for those that are deep into debt, and don't want to declare bankruptcy. One needs to evaluate both pros and cons. A debt consolidation loan could be helpful if you ran up your credit cards while you were in business school, or if you have a number of high interest installment loans. This will allow you to roll this high interest debt into one manageable payment. For some people, debt consolidation may not be the answer. To start with, it can be difficult finding fair interest rates.

it is crucial that you do your own research and ask a lot of questions before signing up for a DMP.  However, you can surely do your own debt management program.  All you need is a system, some discipline and determination, and for a tiny fraction of what you would pay a counseling agency you can purchase a do it yourself debt reduction system or you can do a search for a free system.
