    Re: Soap slivers

I tried most of the ways suggested to use up old soap but the one I found worked the best for me was to use this mesh bag.  I bought the bag from a store and just put all my little bits of soap in it.  It's a great washcloth and since the soap is in the mesh (there are several layers of mesh to this bag and a drawstring at the top) I hang it up after using and the soap dries out and doesn't get all icky.

Before using the mesh bag I used to just stick the small piece of soap onto the larger one.

I figure all the energy used to heat the soap bits and make them into large soap bars isn't as economical as just popping them into a mesh bag.  This bag has lasted several years so far and since it's made of very durable plastic it's easy to clean and keep dry.

The mesh bag beats ending up with a giant gelatinous soap blob!  E

Edey, I was hoping to hear what happened with the blob soap. Did you pour it into molds? Did it work?

The eternal soap blob is still sitting in the jar in the dark recesses under the kitchen sink, aging gracefully, unlike me.  Someday when I'm totally out of soap I'll dig it out and see what vintage it is and if it is useful.

Otherwise when I saw that soap blob in the jar, I wasn't real sure what to do with it, so it just got ignored than stored. Should I put it by the spoonful in hot water? mold it? use it for laundry? make spray cleaner from it? My mood for experimentation kind of died, so there it sits under the sink.  Edey

    [:)

    Hi,

I have been looking into homemade laundry soap and if you would have mixed in Arm and Hammer washing soap you would have enough for about two years.  I found the recipe on Stretcher and can only find the washing soap online.

If you could heat the jar and melt the soap you could still do this, or take a bit and use it with vinegar so that it doesn't over sud.Smile

It should work as liquid soap in homemade cleaners.

That's probably what I'll do with it. It would probably last me the rest of my life.  Edey

Octoberbabye - Welcome to Dollar Stretcher Community.

I had searched all the local stores here for washing soda last year and none had it, so online would probably be the only way to get it.
