That's horrible service! Have you contacted Bankrate to inform them of the problems you had?

I like my online banking. I have both savings and chequing accounts and I pay most of my bills online. The thing I like about it is there aren't any banking fees for normal transactions like transfers between accounts or withdrawals. The weird thing is, this bank is run by a major grocery chain here in Canada.

My husband and I still have a brick and mortar bank for the mortgage and his business accounts. Some things you just need to talk to people face to face about and, abominable banking fees aside, the folks at our branch are super friendly and helpful.

We use a local Credit Union - that makes us an "owner" (I just don't have to clean and take the trash out).  They know your name when you walk in to do business.  On-line banking is free.  Debit card is free.  Interest on savings and checking is higher than banks around here.  Checking is free.   ~Gingerbread

    rolo:

We pay all but 3 items online at our brick and mortar website.  We write only 3 checks per month: God, rent, lump sum cash withdrawal.  We have a savings at the brick and mortar but our best savings return is with our ING Direct savings account. ING pays a very good rate of interest on the savings AND their Electric Orange Checking.

One word of caution: ING requires you to be approved for a LOAN...wait...it's called something like Overdraft Protection...if you overdraw, rather than transfer from savings they tap into your line of credit with them.  A slippery slope, imho.  We ONLY have a savings account with them.  Otherwise, I would highly recommend ING.

    Hi

I was just looking through some old threads and saw this. I have been wanting to open a savings account but just haven't had the money to do it - the $25 would be great! Can I get a referral?

    Thanks,

    Marcy
