Deb I believe that it is very important for Christians to know and study the Old Testament. Why? Because we believe that there is a connection between the two. My church spent last year studing the different feast days. We did one on the first Sunday of each month. The children always had a special part. They got to throw out the leaven, camp in a small tent, blow trumpets,,,,,,,they had a wonderful time. I am sure that they will remember all they learned. Keep up the work teaching us more of G'ds Word. Babs

Dear Sue, It is actually the blessing that Aaron & other high priests gave in the Temple to the people.  It's from Numbers 6:24-26.

    In full, it reads:

May the L-rd bless you & safeguard you.

May the L-rd illuminate His countenance for you & be gracious to you.

May the L-rd turn His countenance to you & establish peace for you.

Enter His gates with thanksgiving, His courts with praise; give thanks to Him, bless His Name. (Psalm 100)

Dear Babs, Your church sounds wonderful! And I believe that it's your husband who is its Pastor, so hats off to him!

     Thanks for the correction Deb.

Babs - I agree with Deb what your church did is a wonderful idea.

We tried to do some teaching on the feasts to a home group we belonged to but the others weren't ready for it.  We do music for our children's church and we currently call them to worship with the blowing of the shofar.  My husband has his own. I am amazed at how people we meet when we are carrying the shofar in and out of the building ask questions and are very interested in the hows and whys. It is good to know the Old Testament.

Thanks Deb for the nice words. Yes my husband is pastor and my son is the assistant pastor. He has been studying the Torah and learning some Hebrew. He is a good student so will learn a lot. One thing that he is doing is looking at Old Testament scripture and how the New Testament events connect to the Prophesys. Passover and the part that Feast had in Jesus death. That the Feast of weeks was the same time as our Pentecost ( which was the coming of the HOly Spirit) It is very interesting to learn so much.. Hope this made sense.

Sue, we have a shofar too that we often blow to call the people to worship.

Thank you for posting this.  This is my favorite Scripture of all time!  For the record, my kids are having a BLAST learning about the Books of Moses.  (We are studying the Bible through an excellent teaching through Alpha Omega Publishers, for those of you who homeschool or are interested in studying something at home with your family.  We believe that our New Testament is a fulfillment of the Old Testament.  Learning about the Old Testament is opening up the New Testament more and more for me.

It seems to me that it is only natural that Jesus taught according to what he had learned from Rabbis of his day.  It seems to me that he must have been perceived as a Rabbi himself before teh crucificxion.  What do folks think?

Yes, he was called Rabbi. Many people followed him as he walked all over Israel, teaching them. You might find it interesting to read one of the "Gospels" (the first four books of the NT) sometime. The book of Mark is probably the best for an overview and it's the shortest.
