Heck, I use any and every kind of plastic bag that comes along as trash can liners: Cereal bags, bags from my cat litter, I just bought pillows, and THOSE bags are big enough for trash can bags in the kitchen!  Bags from around TP and paper towels--any plastic bag that is bigger than a sandwich baggie is fair game to be used as a trash can liner in my house.  Bread bags, you name it!

I do, too.  I keep 3 sizes on hand, and I wash and reuse them until they fall apart, pretty much.  Even when they do develop small holes, I'll use them for storing other items, like...postage stamps or address labels, etc.

I rarely have to buy a box.  I just ran out of all 3 sizes, and it's been...gosh, probably over a year.  And that's only because I did not have a routine in place for washing them right away.  I would leave them sitting in the sink, and *ew*!  So now that I've learned that lesson, I just wash them right away and set them in the dish rack.  I get them at the dollar store or Big Lots.

Wow, this is a really annoying problem.   Is there no way to lobby for him to be able to wear white pants to work?

    Things I do:

-I've already talked about baggies and plastic bags as trash can liners, etc.

-Paper bags-I reuse them as either lunch bags (the small ones) and use them until they are too torn up, or the larger ones I use for paper recycling and under my dish drainer (I don't have a drip tray for it right now.)  They dry out and never actually get wet enough to fall apart.

-Rags.  Except for cat messes, I use rags for everything, including as napkins.  I do keep paper napkins on hand for guests--I don't care if the napkin I'm using is a rag, but other people probably would.  LOL!  I do intend to get cloth napkins---or make them--eventually.

    -Boxes

-Carry out containers.  I rarely buy tupperware type stuff, because I reuse carry out containers and other plastic containers and tubs.

-Mesh produce bags.  Some of them get used as scrubbies, and some of them just get used as shopping bags.

-I'm doing my best to switch over to cloth/my own shopping bags.  I keep forgetting to leave some in the car.

-Fabric/clothing.  If it's a pattern or color or fabric I really like, I keep it for crafting.

I basically reuse anything and everything I can.  I put out a full garbage can once a week (we have pick up twice a week,) but that's only because I have 8 cat boxes that get scooped every other day and changed every 2 weeks!  If it were not for the cats, heck, I'd probably put out one small bag a week!

Joanne, is your comment about white pants to me? If so, I can say that white clothing would pose other issues. My husband is a maintenance tech. Until he gets a work order he has no idea if he will be working on their wiring, their AC, under their home or dealing with a toilet.

I was just joking.  It was a random thought.  Oh well.

My husband has told the boss that if they want the techs looking spiffy then the company needs to buy their clothes. He later found out several techs said the same thing.

Hi All,  I'm new to the forum and love all the great suggestions.  I read once that rit dyes can be toxic.  I can't verify it - it was a long time ago.  I just never felt good about using them after that.  Does anyone know how I could check out the truth about dyes.

Hi Anne, I found this: http://www.pburch.net/dyeing/dyelog/B1063361308/C22699859/E20061206202040/index.html

Probably doesn't answer your myth question completely, but I couldn't find anything else when I searched.
