    You know You're Frugal When...

So, I was reading one of my magazines yesterday and there was an ad in there for Dove Moisturizing soap (have you all seen it?).  It has a bar of Dove Soap at the top and under it is a bar of dried up, cracked soap.  Under the Dove Bar is the caption "Beauty," and under the dried up bar is "Beast."  Now, my first thought when seeing this ad was...."Man, the soap on the bottom would probably last for SIX MONTHS.  I'd rather have that than the Dove any day."  I joked to my husband about it and he actually thought the same thing.

This may have already been done here, and if so, I'm sorry to restart it, but it might be funny to share those quirky moments that really strike home to us just how frugal we really are!

For me? Just today I was at a thrift store with my DD and looking at some different items and thinking "I can make that". LOL Went to a huge art show Thursday night and thought "I can make most everything here". To me that's when I feel really frugal.

I get a zillion mail order catalogues, not sure why!  Anyhow, I give them all to my aides, sight-unseen by me, except for Miles Kimball.  It always gives me a great laugh to see the new "inventions" in housewares, etc., teh vast majority of which are unnecessary except to spendthrifts, & he rest I can esaily make with substitute materials.

Enter His gates with thanksgiving, His courts with praise; give thanks to Him, bless His Name. (Psalm 100)

    Yours in thrift, Deb

You are out in public and want to say something to a total stranger to not buy something because you know where they can get it cheaper/second hand.

Your group is all going out to eat and you go home for pbj because you are sticking to the budget.

You use scrap paper/envelopes instead of buying postits or whatever for lists/notes.

    Matthew 6:25-34 Do Not Worry

25"Therefore I tell you, do not worry about your life, what you will eat or drink; or about your body, what you will wear. Is not life more important than food, and the body more important than clothes? 26Look at the birds of the air; they do not sow or reap or store away in barns, and yet your heavenly Father feeds them. Are you not much more valuable than they? 27Who of you by worrying can add a single hour to his life?

I knew I was certified frugal when I used duct tape to patch a hole in a shower cap that is over 7 years old!

When I baked a 2 egg cake with 1 egg and got compliments on how tasty it was for the first time in over 25 years of serving it.

I knew I was frugal when I learned to make my own laundry soap, what an epiphany....  Party!!!

Man...THAT is definitely Frugal!  I have looked into making our own laundry soap, but Joey is leery of handling the borax.  How does it turn out?

People at work think I'm crazy because I use the back of scrap pages for my notepad.  We have lots of extra paper, and I hate to see if wasted, so I cut the sheet in half horizontally and then use a metal bulldog clip at the top for my notepad.  Once I've written on every square inch of the page, I'll toss it in the shred bin because they recycle.  Everyone else would rather use the note pads with the corporate logo, but I don't see the point in wasting something with our logo on it that we're not going to send to anyone...

     You know you're frugal when......

You think canned beans are expensive because you can hydrate and boil dry ones.

Your idea of tupperwear is margerine tubs.

If dinner for 9 goes over $7, it was a fancy meal.

The kids like going to the bathroom at friends, where there's "soft" toilet paper.

You realize the toy you made for your baby from fancy paper, glitter and ribbon in an old water bottle is now on it's fourth baby.

Those are the ones I think of now!

I still do that at workWink.  Saves me at least one trip to the potty at home.
