U.S. Resident fight to hang their laundry...

That's the title on a story this morning from Reuter's, posted on Yahoo. Seriously, what ever happened to "Freedom" in this country? I never thought I would see the day it be against the law to hang laundry. My grandmother would turn over in her grave! People hang their laundry around here all of the time. I think it's charming...ugh! What is this world coming to?

Having just read the article...at least some states are considering laws to give people the right to do it. I thought it was already a right! I always knew there was a reason I didn't ever want to move into a housing sub division...sheesh! You can't hang your laundry to dry, but you watch people air their dirty laundry on reality TV all of the time. Something seems backwards...

Sorry folks, I meant no offense to anyone, stepping down off my soap box now....

In our area, we can hang laundry. However I was talking to one of my neighbors and was rather surprised to discover that they had an aversion to seeing laundry hanging outside. They "didn't see the need to hang" when you have a perfectly good dryer to use. They are a retired couple and HAD TO hang clothes when they were growing up. They can afford to use the dryer so they assume everyone else should too. Reducing consumption isn't on their radar.

Yes but you're watching that indoors. Sarcasm inserted here.

There are many places where you can't hang laundry. You might be interested in the Project Laundry List web site. They fight for the right to hang out laundry. It's crazy that there have to be laws to allow things like this.

It's a sad day when hanging laundry is banned because it's an eyesore. How shallow have we become?

People fought for this in Vermont. They passed a law making it legal to hang your laundry outside. Crazy, Babs

I happen to live in one of "those" subdivision.  Our Hoa rules "No outdoor line used to hang clothing". I got around this because my deck in the back is huge and I put all my laundry over the rails. Only 2 neighbors could even see them and one has started doing the same thing now. I have to pay attention to the clothes so they won't blow off and I have to turn them over but it is still worth it. I reduced our electric bill by $38.00 by just doing mine and dh's. DS1 and DS2 still dry their own in the dryer. They do their own laundry.

I think it's crazy that someone can tell you how to do your laundry. I have hung clothes out for over 22 yrs.

I just think it's complete craziness to get so worked up over someone hanging their laundry on clothes lines that they actually pass laws to prohibit or allow it.

I agree...seems to me we have much bigger issues to be concerned about in this country at the moment....
