the active ingredient in *** and span was trisodium phosphate. you may be able to find a box labeled "tsp" at the hardware, with the paint prep stuff.
Oh, great tip, cheryl, thanks for posting! I've not had any luck at all finding it locally. I've heard of tsp but never knew exactly what if was or what to do with it. Thanks for posting! Liz.
I used tsp to wash down my mobile home before we painted it.
It came in a little box, similar to a baking soda box. Got it at Lowe's, not sure how much it was but it couldn't have been much because that painting job was done on a shoestring budget.
Yes, I've heard of it for pre-washing walls before painting, so I guess that's the same thing I was doing, cleaning walls with it! We have a new Lowe's near here - if nothing else, I'll check there. Liz.
Those boxes labeled TSP no longer contain Trisodium Phosphate, if memory serves me. Too much environmental damage of some sort and EPA took it off the market. The current TSP, and probably S'n'S as well, is most likely washing soda with some sodium lauryl sulfate.
rats! guess my box has been hanging around the basement for while!
Oh, are you kidding?? Shoot. I'll have a look at it and see. Gotta find something to wash mil's walls with and it'll have to pass muster. Any other ideas? Liz.
