Smart or Wise Food Purchases ?

Have you made any smart or wise or frugal food purchases ?

I found 5 pounds of frozen mixed vegetables for $3.77 on sale at Walmart (store brand). That comes to around $.75 a pound ! I bought 2 bags of them. I've been using them in chicken casserole and in soups. I will purchase more when I use them up.

The Edwards Petite Ham was not cheap, but I've been able to have something quick to eat because of having it in the fridge.

I have just found a recipe for making potato bread in the current issue of Yankee Magazine. It makes 2 loaves of bread. I'm thinking that will be cheap to make plus it takes less than 3 hours from start to finish. By purchasing instant potato flakes (store brand), I am able to bake bread and make soups.

It wasn't frugal but I sure hope it was smart/wise.  We got new windows installed upstairs.  Last night was the first night with them.  They completely cut out the cold draft in my corner of the room.  The bathroom is so nice and "unchilled" that I probably won't turn on the heater in there when I shower this morning.

-- oops , didn't see the word food until after I posted -- IMO all my food purchases are frugal/wise -- the majority is basic elements, I'm not paying $$ for premade items with fake food (artificials, corn syrup...)
