    repairing cat-scratched foam insulation

My landlord had the basement weatherized last year. They left raw foam insulation on the walls (soft kind).

Well, I just went down and discovered that my cats have scratched into the insulation all around the walls (basement is a good 40x50 feet).

I have to find a way to fill in the gouges and paint over it all. What can I use to fill in the holes? I put some drywall joint compound on them, but it seems to shrink and actually be absorbed into the foam insulation.

    Help!

Hi ... the foam insulation we used came in a can and it stayed sort-of soft ... this product might work for you, too. You would spray some on the area and fill/spread to fill-in the holes and scratches, wiping away the excess as you go. Hope this works ...

Thank you, kb.  I've used this, too. It works well, but the kind I've used also expanded a lot, even when I wiped it even with the surface. Did your do this? (Mine was tan-coloured).

I think maybe 3 coats of the drywall stuff will work, but then I am wondering about the difference in wall texture when I paint over it. Yikes. I'll try to get a Home Depot person where they got the insulation and find out. Either that, or I have to pay for it. Can't do that.

If I find out, I'll post it.
