When you apply for food stamps/snap do they look at how much you have in your bank account? I ask this because I have two mortage payments stocked back and Friday is my hubbys last day befor he will be laid off. I am not sure how long he will be laid off, or if he will beable to find work while laid off. It will be three weeks befor we get his first unemployment check. His check will only be for about 1/4 of what he brings home reg. I have been job hunting for four months now with no results, so we can not lay our hopes on me finding work with in the next week or so. I've never applied for food stamps befor and have no idea what to do. Any advice would be great.

I have a few questions debra gave some good advice and each state and laws are differnt its good to know the laws about it.

Dear Goldenblaise, Yes, the amount of asssets you have is crucial.  You are allowed a primary residence, a used car, & $3K in wealth if you are married, $2K if you arez single -- I'm fairly sure that that is the Nationwide criterion.  "Weslth" certainly incllludes your bank account.  I suggest that you make your 2 mortage payments before applying.  Yours in Him, Deb
