Sunshine, are you sure we aren't related, lol? My stylist (and friend) is fussing because I haven't had a cut since May and my hair is like yours and causes some of my headaches. I am wearing dh's coat until I find one (he has several), I refuse to go back to the eye doc because it has only been a year, and when the doc says daily migraine meds, I say nope, not time yet. I am holding off as long as possible. We have discovered that my hair and eyes did trigger some of the headaches so that helps.

I also try to make my sneakers last until christmas and birthday(may) so I don't have to buy them.Dh buys them for me. Nike shox work wonders for my back at work so I only wear those (clearanced of course) They average $50 a pair for me.

    Pat:
Have you ever put off buying something you really needed because you didn't want to spend the money?

No, but we both try very hard to plan ahead and see what is coming that we'll need.

An interesting article on "spenders" marrying "savers" is here:

    http://articles.moneycentral.msn.com/CollegeAndFamily/LoveAndMoney/why-savers-and-spenders-marry.aspx?page=2

However, all things are relative. For a while I was married to a "spender" who bailed when I refused to take out a loan for a trip when we were already flat broke. Her solution to every "I wanna..." was charge it or take out a loan. I'll take out a loan for an education, a house or a car, and the wisdom of that is debatable. My theory is that if whatever the loan buys will last longer than the loan then one can justify/rationalize it if one is aware of the cost of the loan and factors that into the decision. DW, on the other hand, is more financially conservative than I am. For example there is no way she'd ever spend five figures on a motorcycle like I did last year. BTW, I wrote a check for the bike, no loans.

And a few years ago I was the one who wanted to take $3k out of savings, pack up the car, and "just head west until we hit the Pacific". SHE was the one who didn't want to spend the money. So one could say that in our relationship I'm the "spender" and she's the "saver".

I'm a super tight fist right now. Have to be since I'm the only one working. DH went to the dentist the other day. They call yesterday and said DH needs a heavy cleaning which will cost over $800.00!! We can't afford this. They will not take payments either, but will set us up will a loan company. Of course they eagerly sugggested us using a credit card. I told them we will get back to them.

Is there a way to get a second opinion? That does seem high. The other option if its available to you is to go to a college where they teach dentistry and allow students to work on you. They are closely supervised by trained dentists. Hope you can find a way to make it work for you.

That is so absurd that it's almost criminal! Find another dentist! Ask friends and neighbors for recommendations.

My dentist charges about $80 for a cleaning.

Granted I'm in West Virginia where the cost of office space is lower than many areas, but even in a high-cost area like New York City it shouldn't be ten times as much. $800 is more like the cost of a new crown or something.
