No one mentioned the Oreo Cookie straws that are out there now.  I bought a box because WM had them on sale (trying to get rid of them, I'm sure) and I had a coupon.  Thought the granddaughters might enjoy them...nope, they wanted to know why grandma just didn't buy Oreos??

Someone mentioned Grapple, are you referring to the apple with the grape flavoring injected into it?? My DS came home from school in the 5th grade wanting some of those.  I put them on my list, took them off my list when I saw they were $1.50 for one small apple.  I can inject my own juice into an apple...which I did and he never knew the difference.

When I read the title of this thread, about pancakes in a can, I immediatley imagined a short stack of cooked pancakes in a can, ready to heat and eat!  LOL!

They would probably be canned in syrup, like peaches.

Really?! That does make sense. I've made my own gluten, or seitan as some cookbooks call it, and it is a lot of work.  First you mix it up, knead it for a full five minutes, and cook it in boiling broth for 50 minutes.  I used to slice it thin and use it in stroganoff instead of steak or hamburger.  Once you've got it made it's very convenient, but making it is labour intensive and messy.

I know you can make it because hillbilly housewife has a recipe for it but I have never tried gluten as far as I know!  unless I ate some in chinese food I didn't know about.  didn't know that was the other name for it seitan..thanks now I know :)

There's a place in my heart and cupboard for a certain amount of convenience food.

I buy and use:  Kraft singles, canned frosting(the spreadable kind), baking mixes of all kinds, refrigerated cookie/sweet roll/cresent/etc dough, hamburger helper, Kraft mac and cheese, individual packs of pudding and applesauce, sandwich cracker packs, frozen veggies, frozen waffles/bagels, frozen pizza(including pizza rolls), frozen chicken patties/nuggets, steakums, and more.

Of course, I only buy those things when they are on a good sale and I have coupons for them.  Well, excpt for the Kraft singles and the mac&cheese.  I must have those in the house at all times, price be damned!

I draw the line at things that are just crazy such as the aresol pancake batter and peanut butter singles.  That is just too much.  They already sell pancake mix in a jug so all you have to do is add water, shake it up and pour it out.  And if you are unable to spread peanut butter on bread, you need to get some serious help.

I love lefsa, just don't eat enough to justify a package of it. I used to know how to make it, but that's been over 30 years ago. I should find a recipe online and try it again. The lady who taught my friend and I also taught us how to tat. Haven't done that for years, either.

The only thing I occasionally buy is fruit in those little cups or cantalope or watermelon in a bowl. I'm the only one who eats them, so for me it's cost effective as I'm not throwing out food.

I hate the "fake" taste of most convenience foods.  I saw the pancakes in a can and had to point it out to my spouse.  Such packaging waste!

I have to admit that I like vitamin water.  Not because it has vitamins in it, that's not why I buy it.  I've been looking for a good drink that isn't carbonated and is just slightly sweet, but with real sugar, not fake sugar.  Especially since I've been sick the past few days and needing to drink lots of fluids, anything that makes that easier is great.  I like the way it tastes, and it has fewer calories than pop when I'm looking for a "treat" drink too.

Being a single lady with  full time job, I am always on the lookout for good tasting, inexpensive convenience food. Good luck  LOL Never had a frozen dinner I really enjoyed or filled me up. Some frozen pizzas are ok    I do buy "chunky" soups when they are on sale but mainly try to do a lot of investment cooking. I happen to like Kraft dinner and Hamburger Helper, but again stock up on sales. It's a balancing act but I'm starting to feel guilty about the packaging and need to work on recycling. The strangest thing I saw was frozen oatmeal. No kidding!! I think it was about $2 for a single microwavable serving.
