    babs:
I live in the middle of Vermont apple orchards and have never seen an apple of this discription

I grew up in Ohio, and my father had over 20 apples trees, lots of varieties, & I have never heard of it either, but it sounds like it would be very tasty! Big Smile

I had the last one around 1994, before my ex-boss's/apple seller's daughter was killed in a robbery and he quit selling in that city.  This Italian fellow sold at the Atlanta Farmers Market.  I may post an ad in Craigslist or Creative Loafing and see if I can find someone who knows about it.

Spent the last hour online looking for that critter, and found out the following:  Earliest known white apple variety, still being grown, was the 1540 Calville Blanc d'Hiver, which looks exactly like my apple, but  specifically listed as a cooker, which lets my Strawberry out.  Davenport heirloom apple collection does have  an Early Strawberry from the 1700's, a Washington Strawberry, which is a red apple,  and  other collections have  a White Pippin, couldn't find out much on this one, a White Pearmain, which is a dessert apple and my personal suspect, and a White Astrakhan, which is a cooking apple.   Mine was ripe early September, so I don't know if this is an early, midseason, or late apple for you.

we grow apples have about 200 trees ..

could your mystery apple be a Strawberry Parfait , ( NJ 46)  it's an early apple . meduim size sweet and flushed red ... but it a later July or so apple  or it could be ..Strawberry Pippin .Medium sized fruit is striped and flushed red. Crisp, juicy flesh that is quite sweet  they are an early apple too ..  both are heirloom

we have friends who grow them and the are starting to find several markets ...

Both sound wonderful.  If you hear of any Ellijay area people growing heirloom apples, please let me know.  The commercial orchards there seem to grow mostly Rome apples, which I don't care for at all.  My personal preferences are for the old-fashioned, ugly little Russets, which don't sell worth a darn unless you have tasted them,  or a Mutsu.
