    eBay Ignores Scam & Victim's $9500 Loss

     http://www.consumeraffairs.com/news04/2007/08/ebay_skis.html

Bogus sale of 2 jet skis. Everything looked right until AFTER $9500 wire-transfer sent.

Several (ignored) emails later, eBay said it was "not liable. "

We had a scam situation too with. Fortunately we figured it out before we shipped the item. It was for a $500.00 item and the "buyers" were allegedly working for a client overseas and they sent us a very large check to more than cover the item and shipping. Telling us to "send them the difference". We thought it sounded fishy so we checked and the address that was on the check was for a vacant office. It turns out the check was being drawn on a real account, but the account was not their account. They did not care about the item, they just wanted someone to cash the check and launder the cash for them. We reported it to the police and to Ebay but we could not even get our listing fees back without jumping thru many, many hoops. What a scam. My son has sold stuff on Ebay many times with great results except for this time. At least we did not ship the item. I am sorry that you had a bad experience and could not get satisfaction. At least we were not out so much.
