    Coupons for Holiday Baking

Since there have been so few coupons lately on products that I use in cooking, I am beginning to wonder if we'll be seeing many coupons for holiday cooking and baking this year.

I noticed that baking chips were more expensive  this year when I went to Walmart last week.

I've had a Fischer nut coupon forever, but I haven't found a store that carries that brand yet - most here have a house brand and that's it.  I'll need to stock up some spices and have noticed they're very high - occasionally I can find McCormick or Spice Island coupons, but none lately.

I can get Aldi's choc chips here for $1.69 or so - what are you seeing them for?  Liz.

They were between $3.00-$5.00 at Walmart for Nestle's. I was shocked because that was a lot more than last year's prices.

Whoa.  That's high!  I've noticed our WM here is carrying more and more name brand items.  They're expanding their own Great Value line, but in some things you are limited to only national brands - and they're not competitive price-wise at all.

We're really going to need to shop around this year...Liz.

You gotta watch how WM stocks their stuff, too.  That's true for any store....  Anyway, I was entering some stuff in my itouch price book while waiting on prescriptions at WM and they had the big bags of baking chips for $5.98 (32 oz) and the 12 oz sized bags at about 1/2 that.  I did not price out the WM store brand, but I also didn't see them and I was mostly looking at stuff they had in the big display area for holiday foods.  I need to go down the aisles and check that way, too.

They had 10lb bags of sugar for $5.88 and the 5lb bags for $2.34, which is cheaper by a LOT.

They had pecans (1lb) for $6.76, which isn't horrible, but you can get them from the produce section of Kroger cheaper (by about 9 cents per ounce).

I think if we wait another couple of weeks lots of coupons will come out and hopefully some of the prices will drop down some more.  I need to buy a couple bags of flour and more butter and pecans.  I will probably need more baking chips, too.

The whole point of turkey is to get to the pie.

If you have a Costco card or know someone who has a Costco card, they sell very good quality nuts in 3 pound bags at 2 pound prices. I get pecans, walnuts and almonds there.

My papers had sugar coupons a few weeks ago, as well as corn syrup and yeast. One of the IP sites also had sugar and yeast coupons.  I suspect we'll see more in the next few weeks.
