It was DH birthday.  He'd gotten some birthday money from his folks and we had a coupon for dinner for two with drinks for $9.99 a local italian place.  We both had twice baked lasagne and it was great.  Came home to cake and ice cream. :)

Thinking burgers and potato salad for dinner tomorrow.  Still have lots of potatoes.  Mostly stocked but we did need to make a small grocery strip for produce, milk, half 'n half and coffee, plus a stop at the bread store and we can pick up some buns there.  I'll make a pitcher of sweet tea. We still have cake and ice cream too, so I don't need to worry about dessert.

    Re: What was for Supper?

Last night was chicken, black eyed peas, asparagus, fried red potatoes and tea.  Tonight is the Fall Festival at our church.  I will be making sausage and mac and cheese and beans, because it should go quickly.  Then I will be spending about 3-4 hours doing redneck games at church.  Every year I get the kids to play turkey bowling.  You toss a frozen turkey breast at partially filled soda bottles and try to knock them down.  Then the next day I cook the turkey breast.  I have never had one defrost before the games were over so this works well.  I have had the frozen gravy packet that is packed in one brand of turkey, break but it was not a big deal.

Last night was 2 large bone-in chicken breasts baked with 3small onions from our garden, with the rest of the red potatoes & russets that needed used. Served with more tomatoes that needed used up.  For DH, dinner was a quick ham sandwich before he left to work the game.  For me it was a cheese sandwich with some of the rolls from the freecycle bread drop.

The "bread drop" happens here because a wonderful woman is willing to accept, once every 2 weeks, all the bread products that will "expire" the next day from our local Macey's store. She places them on her front porch & notifies the local freecycle group with a post that says "Bread's here" & people come to get it.  She was having enough left over, that she & I talked, & now she posts something along the lines of "Bread is here, will be gone by noon".  That is my "cue" to go pick up the leftovers at noon. The bread is on the porch for at least 12 hours to allow everyone who wants some to have access to it.  I usually keep a couple of bags of rolls, because DH is not supposed to eat gluten but does, & pass on the rest to my Relief Society President, who then takes it to the families that are out of work in our congregation.  This woman gives it to me, because I make sure it does not go to waste, which is the mission of freecycle. When I pick up, it sort of changes rules a bit, since freecycle attaches no income or hardship guidelines, & when it comes to me, it moves over into the "who needs it" rather than "who wants it" zone.  Today I picked up 8 paper grocery sacks full of bread products, & they were redistributed within a couple of hours. It is a tremendous help to those who need it, & I wish more stores would be like our Macey's is, & try to keep the "expired" food out of the landfills.

One local grocery store gives away their bread every day. Our church has a schedule for pickup. It goes to different places every day. Senior housing, lowincome housing, The Fri, Sat and Sundays is given out at church and for Sun soup kitchen. It is such a blessing for many people. Sometimes stores just need someone to ask, have a plan and a tax number for a donation write off for them. Babs

    Re: What was for Supper?

zolher, that is a great plan for the bread!

well m&m meats (all frozen shop basically  small store) had a 23? yrs anniversary so free apple pie with any purchase so my excuse to stop by there.  also 2lb lasagna for sale for $5  2 for 10 so got two.

good quality..so we will had one for dinner and the apple pie for dessert.  kids had leftover kraft dinner from yesterdays lunch.  funny my friend who lived in portland for a few years told me that everyone there called kraft dinner  mac n cheese is what it is called there and that is how her kids know it.  Because I was asking the kids wanted for lunch and I suggested kd and she told them mac n cheese so I said no its kd not mac n cheese...then she explained.   here there is a difference between the two here :)
