    canning question

Anyone ever can fruit in half pints jars? I have a lot of peachs and a lo  tof half pint jars. That size would be good for my Mom. Anyone done this? If yes, how long did you water bath them? Babs

I have done fruit pickles & they are water bathed for the same amount of time as the pints.  I would use the time for the pints, because the processing time is primarily based on the organisms you need to destroy, not necessarily the container size.

    Re: canning question

I agree. I can butters and fruit in half pints since I'm the only one eating them. All the directions I've read said to treat them like pints. The biggest problem I have is finding half pint jars that will fit the rack of my boiling water bath canner without falling through. The last two times I used a cloth instead.

Well researched, Mike. Have you ever done any canning? It's a very gratifying experience.
