I went to Food Lion. Stove Top Stuffing was 4/$5.00. Carnation Evaporated Milk is $.99 instead of $1,19 a can this week.

I bought a rotisserie chicken because Friday is Chicken Day or $1.00 off chicken in the deli.

I told a lady who had put a rotisserie chicken in her cart about the $1.00 off and she practically kissed me because I've just helped her to save $1.00 a week by switching to buying her chicken on Fridays.

Shopped for groceries today.  Budget was $60 and I spent $60.77. My new way of shopping   seems to working ok for me.  On my list I write the prices down next to the item I'm buying (round up the price), total it up, and I can figure how much I'm spending without freaking out at the checkout.  I'm going to try hard to make today the only shopping trip till next Sunday.  I may only need milk.

Over budget.  October Grocery shopping is:  339.59 with a savings of 109.86.

That should be my final number.  Cross fingers.

VNW, just curious, what is your budger for food and do you budget for dining out?  I am so jealous when you tell us all the yummy things you eat and the places you go.  Can I eat vicariously thru you?

I bet my kitties are jealous of Aurora too!  Angel

Yesterday's total for groceries was $228.69. I spent 88.68 at Aldi and 142.01 at Kroger. Aldi has their Italian specialty foods available right now, and I stocked up on their brands while I was there. Like their no boil lasagna noodles 1.69/box, compared to 1.99+ for Kroger or a national brand. I also bought a bag of bread veal patties for veal parm. I love it, but don't get to eat it very often. Also, I've been buying their super lean ground beef for 2.49/lb versus paying 3.99 or more at Kroger. I believe Aldi's is 93% fat free. But I think my super deal from Aldi was 10lb. bag of russet potatoes (no bad ones either) for $2.49!! Those are 6.99 at Kroger!! However, good deals were to be had at Kroger too!! I got a nice big pork loin on sale for 1.49/pound. I can get at least 2-3 meals from this hunk of meat!! I also got a 12oz. bag of shelled pecans for 2.99, as well as 1lb. bags of walnuts & cashews on sale for 2.99. My plan was to use them for my holiday baking, but I noticed that last night, Brian opened the bag of pecans and was munching on those while watching the football game. *sigh* Also, when you bought 4 boxes of select Post brand cereals at 4/$10, you got an instant savings of $4, which meant you paid 1.50 per box. There was a limit of 2 specials per transactin, so I bought 8 boxes of cereal!! Also freash tomatoes on the vine were .88/lb!! WOW!!

    289.00- 228.69 =   $60.31 left for October

I think I can make, so long as we go easy on the milk!!

    Julie T:
Wow!! I can't believe what you guys have to spend on groceries!!

There are four of us, one being a teen boy who consumes more in a day than his Father does. My expenses include household items, laundry items and cleaners.

I usually budget $450 for everything for the four of us.

My stockpile is in great shape; so I only purchase things when they are on sale and/or I have coupons.

I went to Kroger yesterday and did really well.  Everything I purchased was on sale and I had coupons.  Some of the coupons were doubled.  I saved 37% AND I charged it on my Discover card (paid off every month) and get 5% cashback this quarter on groceries.

Tomorrow hubby and I will go to the grocery salvage store.  You never know what they will have.  So if I find a bargain, I buy up as much as possible. Not everything is a good deal.  You have to know your prices!

    Grocery salvage examples:

    1 lb yeast - $1.50

Kraft Whole Grain Mac & Cheese - 44 cents

Large can of Alpo - 79 cents

Small can of Pedigree - 49 cents

24 oz Blue Ribbon Ham (lunch meat) - 99 cents

High end cereal - 99 cents
