I also have migraines. Mine are hormone related. I have a prescription med that works specifically on those type of migraines.

I'm fortunate, though. Sometimes I can't tell the difference between a migraine and a bad tension headache, so my migraines must not be as bad as some of you. If I don't have a queasy stomach, the only way to tell for sure is to take the migraine med. If it works, it's a migraine. If it doesn't work, it's a tension headache. I don't have sound or light sensitivity. I just have a bad headache that doesn't respond to OTC meds.

My mother had cluster headaches. It was terrible to see her suffer with them for days. She would never go to the doctor, though.

I saw an article on CNN's site not too long ago that said there's really only 2 kinds of headaches: tension and migraines. It said there's no such thing as a sinus headache - it's a migraine.

The article also said that migraines were previously thought to be vascular (blood vessel) related, but new findings are that they're actually abnormalities in the brain stem or some other place in the brain.

Just yesterday I went to my soft touch chiropractor for mine.  It seems that there is a little bone in the neck that can slip out (aggrivated by stress, inflamation from allergies/sensitivity...) I feel so much better today.

then I get both because when my sinusitis gets going I hate it.  like being in a brain dead pain fog.   allergy meds don't really do much because non drowsy still puts me to sleep.

Have you tried Nasalcrom? It's a nasal spray that is supposed to stay in your nasal cavity, so less chance of getting sleepy. DH swears by the stuff.

never heard of it, may not be available in Canada. I have tried sprays before and they were too strong for me.   That is my problem, wierd sinuses.  need the right strength and need to switch types around.

Oh yeah, I forgot you are our neighbor in the North.

I looked at the bottle of Nasalcrom and saw that the active ingredient is cromolyn sodium. Do you have any meds like that?

I hope you can get relief...IMHO, any headache hurts, no matter the cause...

    Seaturtle and everyone:

Thank you for the kind words and encouragement. I, too, have suffered from these since I was a child (thanks to Dad's side of the family); they were intermittent, though, until I started a new medication for cholesterol. And I'll be darned if those headaches didn't become CHRONIC! Only now -- a year later -- are things back to any semblance of normal. Angry
