Have you tried Lionbrand website? They have lots of great patterns. I find when I need a pattern it is usually there.

Yes, ma'am. Lionbrand was one of the first I tried. I tried every site I knew about, then googled for hours, it seemed. The exact pattern must be copyrighted and hidden.

I know now where I remember it !  was off on a shopping trip, ate an ice cream treat and twigged my memory!  A Kniffy knitters yahoo group ,I belong too has been talking about them!  making mesh bags for groceries etc. using the kniffy knitter or crocheting one. here is one from a blog: htttp://crystalkini.blogspot.com/2006/03/more-bags.html. l googled crocheted mesh bag patterns (I am a crocheter) and  lionbrand knitted hobo bag pattern came up.  http://cache.lionbrand.com/patterns/50922.html. I know there are patterns for making crocheted bags out of plastic grocery bags too.

http://home.inreach.com/marthac/totes.html  - if you crochet, here is a link. Actually lots of antique and vintage books have patterns because back then you had to have them, no other option.

Not that I have used the kniffy knitter  yet but people do use them, have been changed the reg knit pattern to be used on the kniffy knitter. Since you can knit :) you just need the circular needles.  I am not sure if that is exactly what you are thinking of, if not let me know and i will see what I can find.

    Pat:
It's the same thing as knitting fingers or thumbs into a glove, is that right?

Yes! You only knit back and forth when you are knitting a cardigan. The sleeves, of course, are knit in the round. Elizabeth Zimmerman knitted with steeks. You knit in the round, but at the "seam" you wrap the yarn around needle. When you are done you weave the ends in. I have never done it myself.  I will get back to you about the book!

Thanks for taking the time to go looking! The one at LionBrand is similar to it. Here's a picture of the pattern I'm looking for. I could buy it from them, but I refuse to pay $6 for just a simple pattern.

I think I can figure it out, given enough time. I have some variegated yarn called "Prairie" that I think would look great worked up into that.

I'm rather visually oriented. I'd have to see something like Elizabeth Zimmerman's method to understand how to do it. Thanks for checking on the book for me.

I see what you mean now, its more solid, with the oval bottom. I have seen similiar patterns. I always get the crochet books from the burnaby library, does your library have a good selection of up to date ones?  I will keep my eye out for you on the web.

I don't crochet, I just knit. I haven't been to the library lately, but I should check it out. Thanks!

    Gigi,

Do you crochet? I found and have used a pattern I found on the "Mother Earth News" website for a crocheted triangle shawl. You can make it as big as you like, but I have made several for friends and family and they are so eay to make, and so warm too.

Here's the web address http://www.motherearthnews.com/gallery.aspx?id=71804&seq=0   you will need to click on the "Make An Old Fashioned Triangle Shawl" title to get to the pattern, but it's free and you can print it out.

     kabin,

Thank you for thinking of me. Unfortunately, I do not crochet much; the continual movement hurts my hand. I knit the continental stitch and my hands do no have a lot of movement. The shawl does look nice, however. Thanks again!
