The month of self-reflection, Elul, starts on Thurs 8/20
Dear All, Before the New Year, Rosh HaShanah (which begins the 10 Days of Awe, culminating in Yom Kippur), we Jews examine our hearts & souls & seek forgiveness from all whom we may have wronged, for a full month. This month is called Elul. Every morning at services, the Shofar (a ram's horn) is sounded to remind us.
Folks, chime in if you have any questions or commetns! You're MORE than welcome!

Dear All, Our Rabbi set us a homework assignment a week ago, to fill out the acronym, "Elul." I did not do the assignmetn, but must have been thinkign of it unconsciously. Because, when he wrote "Elul" on the blackboard yesterday Shabbos, I immediately thought & said, "Everybody loves understanding the L-rd." Just to share. Yours in Hiiim, Deb

Re: The month of self-reflection, Elul, starts on Thurs 8/20
Dear Deb,
I find Psalm 139:23 and 24 to be sobering and helpful.
"Search me, O GOD, and know my heart: try me, and know my thoughts:
And see if there be any wicked way in me, and lead me in the way everlasting."
Also all of Psalm 51 . "Have mercy upon me, O GOD, according to thy lovingkindness: according unto the multitude of thy tender mercies, blot out my transgressions." Ps. 51:1
King David certainly knew how to humble himself and seek God's forgiveness, didn't he?
These verses have convicted me of sin in my heart many times.
