Looking for cheap ways to make ICE TEA?

I bought some Cyrstal Light Ice Tea and I LOVE it... but it seems like it might be too expensive.

What do you do to make ice tea inexpensivly.  Also, it is 99% caffiene free which is really important to me~!

    Thanks for all ideas.

First, I look for sales. Harris Teeter puts teas and coffee on sale.

I buy basic tea. The store brand is usually pretty good.

If I have the extra funds I buy fancy teas. Lemon Lift by Bigelow is nice for summer.

If I liked mint, I'd grow a pot of mint in a container.

I'd buy either True Lemon or fresh lemons for tea if I liked them.

Some people prefer sun tea. Some people prefer to brew the tea with boiling water.

There are other brands besides Bigelow.

I cannot do herbal teas because of the medications I take. I have a lot of teas because I was given some plus I bought them over a period of time.

As your budget changes, you could build up a tea stash by purchasing teas one at a time.

Best of luck to you !Left HugRight HugLeft HugRight HugLeft HugRight Hug

I make iced tea from loose leaf for guests, but I have to drink decaf, too, so I make it from the decaffeinated tea bags by Lipton. I just boil water in the microwave and make it as for a cup of hot tea, then add another cup of cold water to it. One bag will make about two glasses, so a box of 48 bags for around $3.00 will make around 96 glasses of tea.

I make iced tea in my coffee maker.  First I clean the coffee maker really good to get the coffee residue out, then I put 8 cups of cold water in the back like I'm going to make coffee.  Then I put three to four small tea bags in the pot with the strings hanging out of the top.  I turn on the coffee maker and the water drips onto the tea bags.  Once it stops dripping I turn off the coffee maker and let it steep for a while, maybe twenty minutes or so, till it gets as dark as I like it.  I add 3/4 cup of sugar to a 2 quart pitcher and pour the tea in, while still warm.  Add as much water as you need to fill to 2 quarts and stir well.  The sugar will disolve easier if the tea is still warm when you mix them.  This is how my mom always made tea when I was little and how I do it now.

I don't make iced tea from bags just a mix or frozen. but I did read about making tea in the fridge but putting 4 teabags in a jug of water overnight.

iced tea isn't as big here as the south :)

These are great ideas, thank you so much.  I am going to try them all probably until I find what I like.

I really do like this Crystal Light unfortunatly.

Martha, I didn't realize you could get frozen, so that is worth pricing out too!

    Thanks,

    dmc

safeways generic brand is a good place, always on sale with lemonade and punches. I use frozen concentrates the most for juice besides juice boxes.   does have sugar though plus might only be lemon ice tea.   tastes good. better then mixes.

I think old south makes one but they are always more expensive.

I don't buy crystal light type products much but safeway was blowing it out the old packaging so bought lots and dollar giant had some.   nestea came out with it too but even on sale  I am not paying $2.50 a box.

    Mom liked Crystal Light products.

I found it went on sale every so many months at Harris Teeter. I've noticed that other stores also do this. It is 2/something or BOGO.Inflation fighter

I would buy a lot of it when I saw the sales so that Mom had lots of it.

Martha, the lemon one is the one I like, and I buy frozen apple juice for DD at home, she uses pouches for school.

VNW, that is what I saw, the old packaging on sale, thats why I tried it.  I might keep my eye open and stock up while the old packaging is still on sale.

    Thanks again all!
