It does go together well and is so fall-ish, lol.  I think it was Laura Ingalls Wilder's hubby that liked cooked apples and onions together - it's not bad, either, I've tried it.

How do you fix your rice and caggage, Brandy?

I put a little olive oil in a pot. I cut the cabbage and lightly brown it then add water. I cover and cook on low heat until the cabbage is soft. Then I serve it on rice.

Oh, ok, what I call 'fried' then - I thought you meant more of a casserole.  Thankfully our cabbage was only softball-sized this month and not basketball :-)  Liz.

I learned about the cranberry sauce and acorn squash many years ago at a microwave cooking class.

My grandmothers called it smothered cabbage. I had never heard the term fried cabbage until a few weeks ago when a friend made some.

I think fried cabbage sounds less like murdering my dinner, LOL!

I even put some cabbage wedges into the roasting pan - it came out tasting like....cabbage

Mom makes this with butter and bacon strips on the top of the cabbage wedges. It's delicious but terribly rich and fatty. I think I'll give it a try without all the butter and bacon.

My favorite way to make cabbage is colcannon. 3 pounds potatoes, peeled & washed 1 stick butter 1 1/4 cups hot milk Freshly ground black pepper 1 head cabbage, cored and finely shredded 4-6 slices of bacon 1. Ok, so you fry the bacon in a pan & boil the potatoes in a big stockpot. 2. When the bacon is crisp, remove it from the pan. Put all the cabbage in the bacon pan (do not drain the pan of grease). S&P the cabbage & cook till soft. 3. When the potatoes are cooked thru, drain then mash or rice the potatoes (if you don't have a ricer, I recommend it-- wonderful kitchen gadget!) 4. Fold the following to the potatoes: milk, butter, cabbage & bacon grease, and crumbled bacon. Top with freshly ground black pepper. Eat! Since we have a lot of potatoes with this AF, I think this recipe is appropriate!

    Re: September Angel Food Menu

I used some of my AF items for dinner last night:

    • baked chicken breasts
    • peas (I think I bought these)
    • potatoes and onions
    • roast pear

    For dinner tonight:

    • baked and breaded pork chops
    • baked sweet potatoes
    • apple slices
    • salad
