Re: It finally happened to me

When I was in debt, I began sending weekly partial payments instead of paying the minimum balance once a month.  Because of how the average daily balance is calculated, I noticed my finance fees decrease slightly.  Then I had the idea to send $5 more a week to just one of the credit cards and slowly but surely my debt got smaller and smaller.

It's the little steps in behavior that have long lasting impacts.

I'm so impressed with these forums and everyone's motivation!

    Keep it up,

    Kim

    All my best,
    Kim

Re: It finally happened to me

    Hi everyone,

It has not been a great day. First the issue with my lien holder/auto insurance on my DS's Jeep that some of you may have already read about and now this:

I got an email from Master Card this afternoon asking me to call their fraud dept. and gave me a number.  Instead of calling that number just in case this wasn't on the up and up I called the number on the back of my card.  Sure enough someone tried to charge a cruise to my card over the weekend.  I do have to say the Master Card lady was very nice and helpful.  They declined the charge, thank goodness and they are cancelling my card.  I asked her how this happens and she said its so easy these days that there are even websites where people sell stolen cc numbers or with all the hackings they could have gotten it that way.  She gave me some tips on how to cut down on it, mainly common sense stuff.  Anyway, I just want to get this paid off and be done with it.

You may want to notify the three credit reporting companies and have a "Fraud Alert" issued. This applies to all your credit cards and lasts 90 days. Its adds another layer of protection.

Re: It finally happened to me

I just rec. a call today on my cell phone.  The man wanted to talk to my ds.  He wanted to let ds know that he was pre-approved for a $3500.00 credit card.

Ds, just turned 18 last weekend.  I am glad he did not call him on his cell phone, the man said all he had to do was answer 2 questions and the card would be sent to him.   When I told him ds was not home nor was he interested he told me he would give me the "special deal" that he was going to give ds.  I did not know that they could call on cell phones to get business, but for the past 3 wks, we have been getting 6-8 text messages for various different businesses.. Some are loan companies, some are telling us to look up some web site and others are get out of debt buisinesses.  I just talked to our phone company and we were charged $3.40 on this bill for incoming text messages on our cell phones.  Many times they just leave messages on our phones or text us and we are still getting billed.  I was told the only way to stop the billing is to block text messages from our phones.  This does not seem fair to me.

I have t-mobile as my cell phone company and one thing you can do with them is block all text messages sent from the internet verses another cell phone.  Most of the messages you recieve from telemarketers is via these means.  Maybe your company can do this as well.
