Re: "Garbage Eater and proud of it"
Brandy, look at a turn-of-the-century (20th) cookbook like THE SETTLEMENT CCOOKBOOK for recipes using all kind of sweetmeats (organs), including brains. HOWEVER, with the possiility of mad cow disease, which is a brain disease, you may very well desire to be cautioooous & not eat the brains at all. (I think that however it is possible to get the disease from aninfected cow from any part of the meat.) The USDA SAYS that no cows sold in th e USA have the disease ....

I don't think I'll be eating the organs, we are a bit more picky than that. I do like the idea of using that for dog food since I currently make some homemade to offer in addition to kibble.

Aint people crazy??!!! For some reason the ignorance of others is so extreme, and the pickiness. I did remember a fun story about my hubby and his previous wife. She kept using up all the packages in the freezer marked with an L . Little did she know she was serving llama until she said they were all out and could he please bring home some more??? She was pretty upset- said she thought it meant "lean". :) blessings, joan of ark

Re: "Garbage Eater and proud of it"
These "friends" of ours do stupid like this a lot. They buy the cow to help a friend out and don't eat the most of it--only the best for them--aren't they special? Spending 100's on stuff they don't need to earn reward points and not using most of it. They throw out clothing with tags on still because it's been in the bag in the closet for a couple of years and nobody would want it anyway. It makes me sick. They are also one of our group that advocated cash advances, and credit cards to pay our mortgage, etc. when my dh lost his job. "See, that's why you should have kept the credit cards." in one of those I told you so voices. Idiots. Not really friends, acquaintances and they are well on their way to financial ruin--but hey, as long as they those cc it will be okay. Sad. They bought some groceries for us when dh was off of work--from Aldis and Save a Lot and told us it might not be any good so to just throw it out if that was the case.

Is not life more important than food, and the body more important than clothes? 26Look at the birds of the air; they do not sow or reap or store away in barns, and yet your heavenly Father feeds them. Are you not much more valuable than they? 27Who of you by worrying can add a single hour to his life?

Some people are just strange. We've had some friends in the past who acted similarly.

Re: "Garbage Eater and proud of it"
The mindset of this couple is that the worth or quality of an item is directly related to the $price. Which I just realized says a lot about they must think of us--frugal penny pinchers that we are! LOL Isn't it sad that our culture is so indulgent that people are okay with throwing away useable stuff?!?!?!?!?

Strange people! I understand people who think the price makes it worth it but to throw it away! I guess none of the church's teachings sink in. They must be very insecure inside or something.

Re: "Garbage Eater and proud of it"
Ahhhh...we must not be any good either. Hehe, we are the best! We have stopped to enjoy the basics of life. When we garden, we are in touch with the essence of life as our hands are in the very earth that sustains us all and we are handling basic life in the plants. When we do laundry, dishes, repairs or the like by hand, we are much more involved in providing for our daily needs. When we cook from scratch, we spend more time providing for our families. It's a richer way to live.

Very elegantly put Brandy! I work with many people who are like this. This is the problem with living in LA. There are SO many people everywhere like this here! I've got people at my work who won't dare touch food if it isn't 100% certified organic from the popular organic stores. While I would LOVE to eat organic for the HEALTH benefits, I know that right now I simply can't afford to. It's not just food too. Many people here waste many things. My landlady is notorious for wasting electricity. At my place, we are very cautious as to how much energy we use (and our electric is INCLUDED in our rent). It seems strange to her how we don't like to use lights all the time....we're strange for trying to help the environemnt and cut down on HER bills!
