    Re: Aldi's

I just found Aldi's today.  There wasn't one back where I lived in VA and I'm just learning my way around my area of IN.  I was without DH & DD so I really took my time to look at everything.  I bought a lot of basics and some snack foods -- reg. pretzles, pretzle twists, chicken breasts, canned tomatoes, beef bouillon, DH's green tea, butter, pasta, ritz-type crackers, and wheat-thin-type crackers.  So, we'll give it all a try and see how everyone likes it.  With most stuff you can never tell the difference, but once in a while you do.  I really hope the chicken is good b/c the price was superb for the quantity I got.

I *almost* wished I needed more stuff b/c the prices were so good, but I can go back next week or the week after for the next shopping trip.  I'm going to take DD with me so she can pick out a fun item for her lunches and some frozen juices.  They had huge boxes of fruit snacks and I like to send those once or twice a week, so one of their boxes would last us a while.  They had a markdown area, too, with several minimally damaged goods.  Example: a box of 100 calorie packs of cookies; the back had been pressed in where it's supposed to be opened, but all 6 bags of cookies were still in the box.  They're normally $2.50 at the grocery store and these were $2 at Aldi and only $1 b/c they were marked down.

I took cash with me, but had to dig for a quarter to get my grocery cart!  It was a learning experience, but I was impressed.  It was clean, well-lit, well-marked, and had wide aisles.  The biggest surprise -- no music!  It was kinda creepy at first, but then I realized I could concentrate more on what I was doing so I didn't mind the lack.

I frequently buy the yogurt and have gotten the frozen mixed berries; both are very good.  It seems to me that they have greatly expanded the Fit n Active line recently; I'm seeing a bunch of products in the sales flyers now that I don't remember before.

i too like aldis.  what i do is i regularly buy the angel food packages.  anything else i need to supplement what i buy from angel food i get at aldis (except some cleaning products).  aldis is much cheeper than the area stores i go to.  i also hit our local dollar tree (right across the steet from aldis) for cleaning supplies or other hh products that might be cheeper than aldis.

    Re: Aldi's

I have to renew this thread because..........applause please...........they are building the first ALDIS in Texas....Please hold your applause while I continue.  I had loved Aldi's in Kansas however when I moved to Texas I called the Aldi's corporate office and was informed that Aldi's did not have any stores in Texas....well, low and behold they are building their first one....i can't wait....AND CAN YOU BELIEVE IT IS RIGHT ACROSS THE STREET FROM SUPER WALMART....Oh I can hardly stand the suspense of waiting for construction to end and for me to put my quarter into the Aldi's shopping cart.  GOD IS SOOOOO GOOOOODDDDDD!!!!!Wink

sueellen -- when you get there, make sure you buy a bag of the dried mixed berries.  It's part of their fit & active line.  I put the berries on my salad with walnuts and either a balsamic vinaigrette or a raspberry vinaigrette dressing.  IT IS TO DIE FOR!!!  It just takes the salad to a whole new level with the dried berries.  And you don't need much so the bag lasts a while.

My other favorite item from them is their salmon -- boneless, skinless, individually sealed and always $4.

Aldi's Mahi Mahi is great too.  It's in the frozen section with the salmon.  I use a lot of the fit and active products and I have liked them all.  I noticed last time I was at Aldi they had fit and active mayo, so I bought some to try since it was less than half of what I usually buy Kraft Light mayo or Hellman's light mayo.  I'm so glad they offer lighter options now, because ten or twelve years ago they didn't have anything that was low fat.

A sale flyer today offers 14.5 oz diced tomatoes for $1 on sale. Aldi sells the same for 49-cents daily. Yay, Aldi!
