The only thing I've gotten from there that we absolutely couldn't eat was their pickles (dill).  They made me think of that old TV show where Aunt Bee of Mayberry made those terrible pickles, lol; must have used the same recipe.  Everything else I've tried is comparable to other grocery store brands. I do have a few "pet" things that I only buy name brand: Kraft mayo, Premium saltines, Nature's Own bread, etc, so I skip those foods there.  Haven't tried any meat from there except turkeys and the spiral-sliced hams that someone else mentioned; they're extremely good.  Canned fruit and veg and dairy items are excellent, as are their rice and noodle box mixes. They have  unusual candy and cookies for great prices that you can't find anywhere else.

i love Aldi's its just right down the road from my house. I love there chicken & dumplings and the salisbury steaks. Now i do have some things that my DH will not eat generic brand and that is mayo it has to be dukes and his texas pete other then that we pretty much do the cheap brand stuff. There is one thing i dont like about Aldi's is they dont have a sales add on the internet like the others do

sammijo, I get their ad in my inbox.  It usually comes on Sunday, but most of their special items aren't available until Wednesday.

    Re: Aldi's

Aldi's is my favorite store to save money. I shop there every couple of weeks, and have saved on a lot of non food items also. We love the muffin , cake and brownie mixes, their dairy products are great prices, and you can't beat.49 cents for soups and canned vegetables.

They recently had strawberries and blueberries .99 cents for a carton.

We switched to their brand of mayo, steak sauce, mustard and ketchup, pickles and salad dressings..The things we haven't liked are their cheese-it type of snack crackers, and their spaghetti sauce.

I can afford to keep more food on hand and not have to run to the store for an ingredient for a recipe.

Just now saw your post, Sammiejo.  But, yes, that is what I did; signed up on the website.  Although if you're getting the paper ad in the newspaper on Sunday, it's going to be the same thing.  My paper ad doesn't come out til Wednesday with the other grocery ads, so getting the email on Sunday gives me a few days head start to plan if I want to go get something special that week.

I know I want to try for one of the food choppers for $4.99 this week if I can get it.  My Pampered Chef one is getting dull and I use it almost daily, a new PC one would be $30+, and this one seems basically the same.  It "looks" like it opens up for easy cleaning, so if it does it would be a good replacement.

    Re: Aldi's

I have shopped at Aldi's since the early '80's and it's been interesting to watch the change in focus of the store.  Back then, the focus was on "stocking up" so there were lots of canned goods but nothing to speak of in the way of perishables.  The only produce were things that stored well such as potatoes or carrots.  No meat available as I recall.  The store itself was very "bare bones" and was located in a more urban neighborhood.  The idea was that you were going to shop your regular grocery, too, because Aldi's just didn't have the selection to make it a one-stop shop.  Then, in the late '80's, the chain started building stores in more suburban settings and retooled their product lines, adding deli cases, frozen goods, etc.  This was right about the time that I had my first daughter and I remember how thrilled I was that the store was moving closer to where I lived since I was carting around an infant at the time.  In early 2000's, the store remodeled their interior yet again, adding more freezer and deli cases and a bit more produce, although the overall square footage remained the same, but it finally had gotten to the point that a person could make them a one-stop shop.  In the early days, it was cash only (no debit cards way back then) and about every person you saw was using a little calculator to add up their total before they got up to the register.  The register clerks had all of the prices in their heads and would punch them into a manual cash register at lightning speed.  Now, of course, they have scanners and debit card machines.  Both of my kids have been raised on Aldi's food and actually prefer their brands to most name brands with only a few exceptions (peanut butter has to be Jif and ketchup has to be Heinz).  First thing we did when my daughter went off to college was find the local Aldi store so she could stock up her apartment-style dorm room.  Much cheaper than buying a meal plan I can tell you!  I can't even calculate how much money Aldi has saved me on grocery shopping over the years, but it has been substantial.
