Pantry challenge july 4 to 11th,2009

seriously need to eat out of the pantry, freeze and cupboard to save money and rotate stock.

pulled chicken breasts out of the freezer for dinner.  chicken caesar wraps. think I will pull some chicken breasts marinated in italian dressing for grillling too so I can put them back in the freezer for an easy dinner lately on a work day.

will buy the fresh stuff I need like fruit, milk, bread etc though.  but I have done that so don't need anything for a few days unless they go though all the bread today.

This is a challenge I've been working on for awhile, but intend to really take it to heart in July.  I'm amazed at how much I have stockpiled and would really like to be almost completely empty by the end of the month and start from scratch.  Except for bread, eggs, milk, bananas and the like, I think it's do-able because it's just my husband and myself and he's easy to please; we have some far-out meal combinations sometimes and he's fine with it.  Plus, we have fresh green beans, new potatoes, squash, and some other items coming in from our small garden now and we are veggie-holics, so that helps.

So far I haven't spent anything this month, but I will have to go pick up a pack of hot dog buns later today.  My SIL has a front-row seat to a glorious fireworks display from her yard, so the whole family always gathers there on the 4th for a huge bbq/potluck.  My offerings are all from my stores except the buns.  A few months ago, I had gotten a large pkg of bratwurst from Costco and there is still half (10) of them left in my freezer, so I'm taking them along with the buns.  I also dug out a roll of frozen sausage and some shredded cheese and mixed up a batch of sausage balls with Bisquick; they're in the oven now. Another find from Costco was a 3-pack of peanut butter/chocolate bar cookie mix and I have one pouch left.  I will bake that when the sausage balls finish up.  I already have a gallon of sweet iced tea made and put it in a festive glass jug with a dispenser spout, so that's it for my holiday fixings.  I thought about making a bowl of pasta salad, but decided against it;  it's better made the night before so it can chill and the flavors blend, and I didn't get around to it last night.

I need to do this too - I have a lot of food that I need to use before it's been in the freezer too long.  I get into a rut where I buy and eat the same things over and over, while ignoring the things that are already in the house, or I forget to take anything out to defrost, and then it's too late.  I did take a steak out of the freezer this morning to grill later; I should be able to use the leftovers for stir-fry, and use some of the vegies in the freezer before it's too late.

I tend to do the same thing. buy stuff instead of using what I have already.  hence the challenge!   in some ways easier this month because the kids are home from school so I can use up more things for lunches like soup, kraft dinner etc.

I will join ya'll this week for the pantry challenge.  July will be an extra tight month budge wise and I need to use what I have in the pantry/freezer as much as possible. I will need to get a few fresh things one day next week but that should be all I need to buy.  Today we are having rib eye steaks that I got on mark down a while back and froze, baked potatoes and a hugh salad.  Dessert will be chocolate pie.

I had run out of things like frozen meatballs and chicken patties. I find that if I keep frozen meatballs, chicken patties, and burgers in the freezer I stay away from drive-ins.

I have come to the conclusion that I really don't like pepperoni pizza that much.

I'm in on this one! We just went to Lowe's and got new appliances for the kitchen and we have a year to pay!  So definitely need to watch the dollars!

I'm up for this challenge! Smile

I guess I did somewhat cheat already since I bought things this morning... but not really cheat since this wasn't posted until after .. right? Wink There will probably be one meal that is also going to be off the challenge... (It's dear sis's, cmouse, 40th b-day on Monday!). Stick out tongue

I have 2# of hamburger out that I plan on making taco meat with.  My pantry and freezer are full so I need to reduce it.

We normally go to the inlaws on sunday so that is my day of rest!   reminds me I better take out hamburger for making chili in the crockpot tomorrow for mondays dinner! been craving chili but I only really like my own.  don't like red kidney beans.   I have canned or I can get it from wendys if I really wanted reg. chili.
