I use Borax and baking soda for routine scrubbing with a toilet brush. In between these, I will use bleach for whitening.

Baking soda and hydrogen peroxide.  Thats pretty much what I use to clean everything in my house.  No nasty chemicals and environmentally friendly too.  Chemicals in cleaners are a big contributor to polluting our water.

WalMart, though I detest the place, does have a double-headed toilet brush, one side a full round head, the second a looped head similar to the old-fashioned veggie scrubber, which can be angled up to scrub around the rim. I wonder how I ever managed without this utensil.

Due to the nature of tenants, I use anything with chlorine in it.  With really bad stains, I put a little LimeAway in the water and walk away for a few minutes.

I once had to clean a toilet which had been left full of *** and then dried out in a vacant house. Rubber gloves and a razor-blade scraper will pry this substance from around the edges and it will peel off in chunks, like peeling thick dried paint. 

mostly comet.  cheap and realiable!   but we don't have hard water here.   I use liquid soap for in between the weekly cleaning for quick cleanups.  i have use lysol toilet bowl cleaner but only free or cheap.

 I use the disposable scrubby pads and once a week put in The Works toilet cleaner  over night since we have incredibly hard water.

I use Comet (usually storebrand equivalent) to clean toilet, sink and tub each week.  In between, I use the FlyLady tip on spraying the seat and rim with Windex (antibacterial) and giving a quick wipe with toilet paper; no muss, no fuss and it stays fresh til the next cleaning.

I do the similiar thing.  the lysol/clorox wipes are easier, just wipe and flush.

I prefer the FlyLady way of just swishing the toilet each morning.  I use a brush though that has a bowl it sits in and I put in a little vinegar water, so I am sanitizing when I use it.  She recommends that if you have multiple toilets to use each bathroom throughout the day or evening and that way you swish each toilet.

I have read, though I've never tried, to do the can of Coke cleaning method.  Apparently a can of coke poured into the toilet bowl and allowed to sit overnight works wonders.  Just flush in the morning and beautiful clean toilets!

I use comet or Ajax, which ever I have on hand that I get from 99 cent store.  for the rim and seat I use a spray cleaner that I make, vinager, dawn dishsoap and water mix.
