    Do I Need 1 or 2 Squash Plants ?

You really don't want to hear my language about the rental house and the repairs ! Trust me, what I say about it is very, very blue and would be quite offensive to many people.Wink

As a result of the $$$ involved, I am going to buy a few more plants to stretch my food budget. I'll be eating a lot of kabobs to stretch the meat I purchase.Inflation fighter

    Do I want 1 or 2 zucchini plants ? Do I want 1 or 2 squash plants ?

    I'll have some tomatoes also.

    Thanks.

Grow 2 plants of each. That will be MORE than enough. Two reasons to grow 2 of each: in case one plant doesn't make it, you have the other plant. If all 4 plants do well, then you have lots of squash to freeze, both freeze great for the winter. Or you can share them with your friends/ neighbors. They take up a lot of room in a garden, cause they need to sprawl. I am growing 3 of each type plants, but I also have 3 rows of mini type squashes that grow in a bush so to speak, so they don't sprawl everywhere...I love zucchini bread, especially in the Autumn....

    Thanks.

Right now I'm missing my step-father's garden. He had veggies and melons to die for. I swear his melons were fantastic.

I have had success growing one zucchini plant, but yellow squash plants must be planted in pairs or more. They need to pollinate each other.

I'll see if I can get 4 plants of the 2 types of squash. With 2 of each variety I should be able to cut my food budget a smidge and eat fresh veggies.

I used to eat more veggies when Mom was still here. On the plus side....I do not drive as many miles as I did when she was here.

I put down a couple more than I need - maybe 3 each in your case. That way, I know I have a good chance of having lots of fruit if one or two gets diseased. I do that with tomatoes, too, and actually with all my vegetables. I they all come to fruition, then I have lots to give away.

VNW, considering where you live in the south, you need to get those plants asap and get them in the container or the plot of garden you said you allowed your friend to use on your property......you need to plant your tomato plants fast to, even though you have the Virginia heat in your benefit, tomato plant flowers will drop when the temps go over 90 degrees, you want those flowers to pollenate to set the fruit. You will be busy this weekend for sure. Happy Planting..........Smile
