Picked peas and bush cherries in the rain. Peas are looking good. Killed some more slugs. Rained most of today and more for tonight. Babs

We have been picking green onions, lettuce & strawberries for a few weeks now, but last night I picked our first green pepper.  Also picked some slugs from the lettuce  Stick out tongue  I have small pimentos on the plants.  Small tomatoes and lots of blossoms.  Small yellow crookneck squash.  Picked a cup and a half of currants - twice as much as last year!  Beets are almost ready. The abundant rain ( for a desert) has been great - no $$ out for water.

Beets are ready and I don't have time to can them! They'll just have to wait... if Saturday wasn't the 4th, I'd do it then. Radishes, lettuce and a tiny stand of spinach didn't like the last few days of hot weather, but we got a good rain yesterday so they've perked up. Onions are doing good, there are some baby spaghetti squash and the yellow squash and zucchini are starting to bloom.

I picked a few peas yesterday, and I'm hoping we get enough cooler weather with rain to keep them going just a little bit longer. The cherry tomato is loaded with little green tomatoes, but I don't think the others have set fruit yet. Green peppers are beginning to set fruit, though.

After an earlier hail storm, I wound up with three okra plants. If I'm lucky, I'll get a meal from them! I had a little room where they didn't make it, so I planted amaranth and a tiny white bean that hasn't come up. The amaranth came up fast and is growing well so far.

I want to plant mustard where the beets are (when I get the beets pulled!), but it's probably too early for a fall crop and too late for a summer crop, so I may wait a few weeks.

My daugher and husband are coming for a visit this fall from Washington state and I want to talk her into bringing some wild blackberry canes to try.

Oooh - I love blackberries! We always had blackberries when I was growing up in Ohio.

I love them, too, but I'm not about to pay $3 for 8 ounces at the store for them. I don't know if they'll do well here in Colorado, but it's worth trying.
