Target doesn't stand behind its store-brand products

Target doesn't stand behind its store-brand products

Beware of buying store brands at Target!

I recently bought "new and improved" Target-brand baby wipes in the giant economy size for $7.99. They are terrible! I have been buying them since my oldest was born 4 1/2 years ago, and they used to be thick and comparable to Huggies. Now they are thin and just awful.

I tried to take them back to the store, and complained all the way up to the store manager. I still couldn't get a refund. Apparently its return policy states that all items must be in like-new, resellable condition or they won't take it back. Since my package was opened, I was out of luck.

On Monday I plan to call the corporate office and complain about both its policy and its product.  I guess it's my only recourse.

I find it outrageous that stores can't or won't stand behind their store-brand products. I'm about ready to say adios to Target! I hope someone else learns from this.

I've always had very good luck at Target.  It sounds like a bad store manager...  Please post an update when you've called corporate!

Well, I called corporate but got nowhere, even with a supervisor. I guess "satisfaction guaranteed" is not in their vocabulary. The rep gave me the phone number to the manufacturer, but what would the manufacturer do? Send me a coupon for more of their awful product?!?!?

I wonder where they think they're getting with this policy. Why would I want to try any new Target-brand products if the quality isn't guaranteed?

Ugh, I'm getting more and more frustrated with Target.  I've had issues lately with coupons not scanning right, being charged full price for sale items, etc.  Seems to me like they're going down hill big time.

I know a lot of folks hate Wal-Mart, but this wouldn't happen there.  They are the only place around here that still has decent customer service.  I got some baby items as gifts from Target and their rules for returning are crazy!  You can only return two items per year without a receipt.  They do ask for i.d.  I tried to explain that they were shower gifts.  It didn't matter.  I returned two items, exchanged one for something that's still too big for my baby because it had to be exactly the same brand and price or I had to pay the difference (which I understand, but the same brand?).  On my way out that day there was a woman I overheard shouting at them (the manager was standing there) about a blanket that was torn or something, but she didn't have the original packaging so they wouldn't even exchange it!  I didn't stick around, but I'll bet she didn't get another one.  I rarely shop at Target anyway because Wal-Mart is much closer and much easier to deal with.  Sorry that happened to you though.  It can be frustrating.

Well, I got a letter from target today. They sent me three, $3 coupons for anything in the store. Not exactly the "refund" I was expecting.

My daughter bought a baby crib sheet at Target.  Of course she washed it before using it.  When she tried to put it on the bed, it ripped-not in the seam but in the fabric.  She tried to return it, but they wouldn't take it back because it had been washed!  (Who is going to put a new sheet on a baby's bed without washing it first? Duh.)  She had the packaging but it didn't make any difference.  There may be many things to not like about Wal-Mart, but they have always been good about returns.

Re: Target doesn't stand behind its store-brand products

I quit shopping at Target about 3 years ago. Their Customer NO-Service does not work for me. I filled out an application for a Target credit card, they approved me for temporary credit which I used the same day for approximately a $100.00 purchase. They lost my application and I never receive a statement or the permanent card. I called to see what the hold up was and they could not find any information concerning the case. Around a month later I received a letter from a collection agency. They had added several late fees, penalities and interest to my $100.00 purchase. Now the total was more than double of the original purchase. I called Target and went to the top but no one would do anything about it so I had to pay the collection agencies full amount in order to save my credit. I have also heard many instances concerning Target not backing their products that they sell. I have been a happy Wal-Mart shopper ever since this happened. I will never step foot in another Target.

If y'all think that is bad...read this post on a local board in Wilmington, NC.  She got some "coupons" too.  Wowee, Target!!!!!!  From what I can tell I think this IS true because I know one of the gals that posted some comments!  Yikes!!!!!!!!!!!!!!  I know Clark Howard does not like Target b/c of their strict return policy.  I can't say that I never shop there but I shop there very infrequently also b/c they are one of the stores that are big on "Holiday-time" rather than "Christmas-time".
