    gardengirl:

In addition to my previous list:

    Recycling and Repurposing

    Car Care

    Housekeeping/Organization

s  I think these are great ideas as well as the family matters section. Counseling is expensive.  I justify a short trip to NY each year in order to spend time with my girlfriends on the premise that it's far cheaper than therapy!

Pat, one more idea. I saw this at another forum and thought it might fit well here too. How about a sub forum for tips/hints for all kinds of things. There are so many household tips floating around out there. I have a book with 1,001. Anyway, just an idea.

Things that I would like to see:

Baby boomers and their parents sharing households.

A section with recipes that are outstanding for company.  I only have a hand full of recipes that are family approved for nicer occassions, but need ingredients that are still not outrageously priced.

A section for  low income households.

A section specifically for food dollars/ grocery shopping.

    Health Insurance -

Living in high cost of living areas and surviving.

I agree with the person who wants Canadian tips. so often when I try to get free samples, coupons etc. I find they are only available to Americans. The tax tips do not apply here and a lot of the rules regarding credit or mortgages do not fit here either. I would definitely like to see a Canadian corner. For instance here is a "That's Ourageous" that only affects Canadians. For years now we have had two prices on many things that are sold in both Canada and the USA.One of the items this affects the most is books. This was because the Canadian dollar was lower in value than the US dollar( at one point our dollar was valued as low as 67 cent US. However our dollar is much stronger now(95 cents US) Why then was I able to buy the recent Harry Potter book in Canada (on sale with a forty percent discount) no cheaper that thirty dollars when the next weekend I saw it in the US at target on sale for 18 dollars. This represents an almost thirty percent price difference and this is the norm for books and many other items.

I also recently became aware that if you buy the same car in the US as in Canada the warranties offered to US citizens are often one or two years longer than those offered to Canadians. So I really would like to see a Canadian corner.

I'm new so some things I mention may already be available.  Do you have a search engine to find answers on certain topics.  Could you cover the latest "product" releases and whether they are any good or not or poll the audience?  Cover basic things like how much does it save you to drive 55 instead to 65.  I'd like to know.

Lastly publish member ideas that can help others.  Here's one:  Ladies are you out growing your blouse and starting to get that annoying gap.  Rather than pin it, fix it for good. Take the blouse to the sewing machine and sew the edge together.  Start just above the bottom button, sew the edge to the layer below all the way up to the second button (or whatever button will allow you to still pull the blouse over your head).  This gives the blouse a tailored look.  If you sew only at the gap it will look funny.

In the upper right hand corner, where you log in, is a search function that works well.

Thanks for your input, I'm still compiling!

Re: What would you most like to see in The Dollar Stretcher Community?

Hi You all:  This is the first I noticed the forum, but may I cast a vote?  I would like to see tips on household repairs, car care and repairs, property upkeep, even legal affairs.  I like the sewing and crafts idea, wouldn't mind seeing a place to send my "extras" where I knew they would be useful.  I live way out in the boonies, so far out that I have not even been able to get an appliance repairman to come out here...so my washer stays broken.

I have received so much help from Deb in Thrift already that I will be grateful forever!!!!  The new ideas you are starting are wonderful.  I like "That's Outrageous" and now I like this Community Forum.  It is great to share and have a place to talk with others.  Especially, if you cannot do it at home, like the one person mentioned.  I can relate to that, although I am not in her situation.  I just do not have anyone to talk to that has knowledgeable answers.  So this is great.

For example, one person mentioned in the newsletter that to save dollars you could recharge your own AC in your car.  I have already paid the garage to do it once and it still does not blow cold, so do I recharge it again or do I take it back to the garage (months ago, it has been sitting since my son is in Iraq) or is there a way I can find a leak myself?

So many questions, so little answers.  A forum is great.

     Thanks.

I'd also like to see a craft/sewing section as well as a show and tell section.

Re: What would you most like to see in The Dollar Stretcher Community?

I would like to see information from folks who garden out of necessity for food to eat,  how to, what works for them, ideas on how to save money on food, has anybody bought a cow or a pig and how did they have the it butchered, what cuts worked best for them?

I would also like to see people who have made it out of the mire of little income and having debt post their personal triumphs to give the rest of us hope.  Seeing someone in my position and they made it thru would be a big boost to morale.
