    Tub of Tofu reflections.

Tub of Tofu is sold locally, looks good/frugal but spoils fast. How do you use it ? Thanks. Maybe this is not for a single person.

Dear Rvijay, You can put chunks of tofu in any dish, such as fried rice, a stir-fry, it doesn't matter.  Extra-firm is the most versatile for cooking.  On the other hand, if you want to make a smoothie or a "cheese"cake, you want soft tofu.  Tofu for cooking is best if you freeze it for a few days, then thaw it, drain the water well, & cut it.  It gives it a texture that omnivores say is meat-like.  PS I have never heard of "tub of tofu," I am just supposing that it is plain tofu.  Yours in Him, Deb

Thanks for your response. This is not plain tofu. It is very creamy and comes in a tub like a margarine tub.

Summary for Tub of Tofu Uses so far:

    3. use it like ricotta in a ziti

    4. vegan lasagna

    5. Chocolate Pudding

    9. Also, wondering if this was poured on to a dish with veggies and baked ? Will the top become golden brown like Cheese ?

    10. Use on Vegan Pizza like Cheese (Extra Cheese !!!)

Is Tub of Tofu a brand?  Are you getting it at a chain store.  We eat lots of tofu.  Block tofu can be frozen so I would think a tub of tofu could be frozen as well.  Is it less expensive then block tofu?

    Thanks

Didn't check brand. It is certainly cheaper than regular Tofu. Sold in a big tub like margarine locally. May not be available everywhere.

What stores?  I'd purchase tofu if it was inexpensive.  'Course, being Southern, I like it breaded and fried with hot peppers...is it firm enough for that?

This is quite soft. Trying to explain how it is, is like trying to describe the taste of Orange accurately. I am sure I will fail at this as I feel this is something best experienced.
