Stretching_Dollars_Mommy_Style

Welcome to my blog: Stretching Dollars Mommy Style is devoted to being a frugal manager of my home. I'll share my tips with you for cool coupons and how to use them, freebies and how to get them, how to shop sales and when to stock up, ways to save around the house (every little bit helps!), cheap and free entertainment for the family, self-sustainable living practices, along with my general thoughts and feelings about learning to live a more simple life that is centered around God and family (what's REALLY important in life). God has really blessed me and my family and so I want to "pay it forward"...

Household Tips: New Uses for Old Toothbrushes

It's recommended that you break out a new toothbrush every 3 months or so or when the bristles get all frayed. Once they've reached the end, don't throw those babies in the trash just yet! There are numerous ways to put them to use to clean all sorts of things. Not only will you save money but you'll be recycling too, in a way. Here are some tips for putting those old brushes to good use:

  • Clean your fingernails
  • Clean around the stove top
  • Clean the corners of the tub/shower
  • Cleaning tile grout
  • Clean your keyboard: dip the toothbrush in a little rubbing alcohol first.
  • Cleaning around sink drains
  • Cleaning small car parts (my husband's favorite!!! LOL)
  • removing build-up from around battery terminals: use a little Coke too!
  • Cleaning jewelry (either with just soap and water or try using a dab of toothpaste!)
  • Removing mud and dirt from shoes, especially tennis shoes with treads
  • Scrubbing potatoes (but remember to mark this toothbrush separate from the cleaning ones! LOL)
  • Removing tough stains from clothes: just use a dab of your favorite stain remover
  • Removing the silk (strings) from fresh corn (again, don't use one of the cleaning ones LOL)
  • Clean mini-blinds or screens
  • Clean cheese graters
  • Groom your eyebrows
  • Clean dust from inbetween the air conditioning grates

Idea Of course, it is a good idea to mark your cleaning toothbrushes so that they don't get mistaken for a "good" one. Yuck! LOL. I suggest using a permenant marker.

One more of my favorites is to use them to work spot removers and flour (to absorb grease spots) into fabric before washing.

We keep one or two of them on the washer at all times for that!

Love the reusing of what others might toss out!

Way to go!

Best Blessings!

I am married to my complete oppsite (LOL). I have a daughter and a son, both toddlers. I'm old fashioned and so I sometimes have trouble connecting with people "my own age". I enjoy gardening, cooking, hanging with friends/family, tent camping, self-sustainable living, finding new ways to save, etc. My goal is to be the stay at home wife/mother I belive God intended me to be. I love being a wife, mom and the manager of my home. God bless.
