The saying " Beauty is in the eyes of the beholder " comes to mind.

A young girl was moving out of the "Projects" and coldn't take her 6 month old Lazy Boy couch with her. It was clean and classy. Management would charge her if it was not gone before inspection. She offered it to me for $10.

I haven't had a couch for many years. It is much more comfortable napping on it than in the recliner. My cats can nap with me now. At the dumpster it would have been Junk. Now my company doesn't have to sit in folding chairs. Just in case, I did vacuum and steam clean it.

If you need potting soil, consider picking up all the potted hanging baskets at the end of the summer that are discarded, usualy on trash day. I have 2 30 gallon cans of potting soil ready for spring planting. The discarded plants and roots are in the compost bin. I gave most of the plastic baskets to a freind who gave them to a school teacher for the kids.

The recycled potting soil is also used in the little rock garden using recycled materials (rocks, bricks, and drift wood) and plants.

I live in Maryland and the store in my town charges ridiculous prices. We stopped in to make some donations and after looking around for about five minutes, I was totally disgusted...they wanted $800 for a dining room table and chairs, they were selling new furnace filters for twice the price of the local Home Depot. And the staff just sat behind the counter and never offered to help us unload our donations and didn't bother to thank us...we donated quite a bit. I wanted someone else to be able to use the things and help out H4H but after this experience, I will never donate to them again and I wouldn't tell anyone to shop there. I am happy to know that the system actually works elsewhere in the country. I've always had a high opinion of H4H and they've built a number of homes in this area, but I don't think this particular Re-Store is well-run. It's sad.

You should be able to tell by looking at them, but if you can't, look for an IPPC stamped logo. If it says "HT" and/or "MB," avoid the pallet because it's been pressure treated with chemicals. Otherwise, it's safe, natural wood.
