How Long Could You Last Without Going To The Store?

I have been going through my kitchen cupboards, freezer, etc. to make sure things are in order and think that we could last at least 3 months with a balanced diet.  How long could you last?  What are the most important things you keep on hand?  How much food do you think is good to keep on hand?

Right now 9-12 months.  I went 9 weeks this winter without going to the store at all.  Did me good to see where I was lacking in supplies.  Eventually i would like to have at least 12 months worth.

mtviolet,

That was impressive to read that you went over 2 months without going to the store at all.  How did you deal with eggs, milk, and produce?  Did you have some frozen?

I'm not sure about this! It would be interesting to figure it out. We do have quite alot of food in the pantry and we only have our frig freezer (we're only 2 here and retired). As a result, maybe a month? I have nowhere to keep things cool...such as potatoes, onions apples (if I bought so many) other than the frig.

It would also depend on the season. We have 4 of those here so storage of food would be different in different seasons. Of course we are assuming we have electricity, water and heat right?

An interesting question!

I do know that when funds are tight I do a really good job of using what's on hand although sometimes our men is pretty varied!

I like the idea of trying to see how long you can go to really figure it out and to see just what we miss that we don't have in stock.
