My daughter and he husband did this test, since we don't eat a lot of ketchup around our house and my son in law loves ketchup. This is what the results were:
The ketchup taste test yielded some
surprising results. I thought that we would not be able to tell any
difference: they all look the same to me, and I've never been a ketchup
connoisseur. So, I enlisted the help of my ketchup-loving husband for
this one. Surprisingly, I was able to tell a difference, too!
The
clear winner: Del Monte. It has more of a vinegar-y taste than the
others, which really appealed to my husband and I. If you like a
sweeter, more robust ketchup, hunts was the next best.
The loser: Kroger. It tasted very bland.
Heinz and great value tasted about the same, and were somewhere in the middle.
As
far as the cost, they were all about the same, per ounce. I lost the
sheet with the exact numbers, unfortunately. Heinz was a little more
than the others, but it wasn't THAT much more.
So,
next time you get ketchup, go with Del Monte or Hunts: it will cost
about the same as the store brand, and it tastes the best!
