Name Brand vs. Store Brand: Putting them to the Test

Cooking From Scratch: Make Your Own Wheat Thins

Do you ever make things from scratch instead of buying them at the store?  This year I have started to try to make a lot of new things from scratch that I would normally buy from the store.  It not only saves me money, but I know what is in the food I eat.  I go grocery shopping once a week, so if I want something and don't have it in the house, I can make it myself.  The first recipe I am posting is for homemade Wheat Thins.  I am providing a link to the recipe if you are interested.  It is http://www.spendwise.org/2011/06/homemade-wheat-thins.html.  Hope you enjoy them as much as we did!

Oh yes, definitely. I make my own bread and rolls (bread machine dough cycle and shape/bake myself). The day before we're having burgers I make the burger buns. I've made my own crackers before, millet crackers. I make my own sugar free freezer jams with freezer pectin. I've made my own cheese before, but it was a hassle getting the rennet so I never did it again. As I've posted somewhere recently I make our "sodas" by adding a little juice or other flavoring to some plain carbonated water (club soda). Most recently what I'm doing with sodas is putting a lime wedge in a glass, smashing it with a spoon, a drop or two of agave nectar, then adding club soda. Really great limeaid taste. I make my own ketchup that we like, not sure if anyone else would. Plain tomato sauce, pinch of salt and either agave nectar/sugar or I guess an artificial sweetner would work. I have no idea what my own recipe is. I just put the ingredients together till they taste "right". I know I make more from scratch but am drawing a blank now. Great post! :)
