Name Brand vs. Store Brand: Putting them to the Test

Name Brand vs. Store Brand - Thousand Island Dressing

We tried the following brands:

Great Value - $1.50

Kroger - $1.25

Albertson's - $1.99

Kraft - $1.50 (was on sale at the time I bought it)

I didn't try this myself since I am not a fan of Thousand Island Dressing.  The people who tried it had no idea which brand was which.  They both choose the Kraft as the best compared to the rest.  There really was a taste difference.  Kraft tasted much better than the rest.  One person liked Albertson's next, and the other put Albertson's last.  Great Value and Kroger were linked together.   I am noticing that Albertson's brands seem to cost more than the other store brands.

You can always make homemade Thousand Island dressing which costs less and my husband likes better.

Gary, I would be interested to see what you think of the Kraft Thousand Island dressing and the homemade Thousand Island dressing.  Let me know your opinion if you do.

I prefer the Kroger store brand but will use the Great Value.  Kraft is too strong for me.  No albertson's near me so I can compare that.

I have made homemade before but since I am the only one who like Thousand Island, I'm worth the $1.50 once or twice a year.  I did find that I needed to leave out the sugar when making it since we use Miracle Whip not mayonnaise.

My husband likes the walmart brand thousand island. My preference is their brand of buttermilk ranch. Surprisingly the walmart (great value) brand of buttermilk ranch is pretty thick. I water it down a bit not necessarily to save money but to make it pourable.

Love your blog, Spendwise Mom!

I have a question and wondered if any one knows about the new Value brand that Kroger stores carry.  When I bought peanut butter to try in the future, I bought the Kroger brand, but I also saw a Value brand too.  They also have salad dressings like that.  It almost looks like it could be a Walmart brand, but without the Great in front of the Value.

I appreciate everyone's honest opinions about what they like.  It is nice to get more information for people to compare with.  Thank you for taking the time to comment.  I am happy to hear different opinions than my own, so don't hesitate to tell what you really think.
